  1. I was supposed to go with a friend back in May and July but other things came up. My friend had a good time and was able to spin about 13-20 of his own records (about the average depending on how many people show up to contribute). Hope to get over there at the end of this month or November.
  2. I second Sylvian's work with Robert Fripp. Also check out David Sylvian & Ryuichi Sakamoto's Forbidden Colours and Nine Horses (Sylvian & brother Jansen with some special guests including Sakamoto).
  3. Not really an artist discography but a label discography question: Having an issue with the first BLUE NOTE 78 as I have 3 copies of the MEADE LUX LEWIS #1 78 (Melancholy c/w Solitude). I have 3 copies of this 78 - two have the 767 Lexington Ave address and one has a 10 W 47th address. This site here - http://rnsdb.x10.mx/recs/labelslGrcbluenote.pdf- shows that the 10 W 47th address didn't come into play until 1944, so would that make my 10 WEST 4TH 78 a "reissue"? Thanks in advance for any information gleaned from my fellow forum members!!!
  4. Ah, didn't know they were stolen. Even those from Germany, Sweden, etc?
  5. I see and have bought cheap razor blades at flea markets here in the US, where the vendor is selling new goods. Sometimes the blades are from another country (Germany or another European country), but I believe they are the same product and just as good. They are usually about $2.50 a blade, so $10 for a pack of 4 vs the $25 at Target, Walmart, etc.
  6. I got mine a year or so ago at a local record store for $5. Shame since it's such a great LP...
  7. Has everyone received their CD yet? Whom should I check with on shipping status?
  8. Heard one of the songs on Rolling Stone's website, I believe, and it sounded really good. Made me go out and get a actual Everly Brothers CD (my first). Hope to pick this one up, too!
  9. Amazon is up to $53 for the Wes Montgomery now. Wonder if the $28 was a typo?
  10. One last bump before I head off to the record store to trade...
  11. Sorry, the McKusick/Carisi/Levitt is gone already. Will update the post to reflect the others that are gone, too.

  13. Not Jazz, but was in the audience for Ben Folds Five / Sessions at 54th (the very first one) that aired on PBS and later released on DVD. Can see myself in the audience and wished I cut my mullet sooner

  15. I know this is 3 years late, but I just picked up this release on Wednesday (used for $15) and can't stop playing it - well, I've actually only listened to Warm Winds (once) and Jawbones (3X times now) and am looking forward to spinning the final CD. I'm not a musician but am extremely pleased with my purchase - sounds great to me. It does sound a little tin-ny at times, but if I play a bit with the equalizer, it seems to fix the problem.
  16. Amazon sellers have it for a little less http://www.amazon.co...d the legendary I got my sealed copy from a old record/CD distributor for less than $7. Love it but glad I didn't pay full price when it came out (which I was about to several times at the Virgin Megastore in Times Square when it was around)...

  18. Would have made a good article in THE ONION, to coincide with the Lance stories, if they haven't done something similar already.
  19. Not jazz but nonetheless fun/funny: Was at a rest stop in Florida waiting for a girlfriend to come out of the bathroom and noticed someone in line at the Cinnabon who looked familiar but I couldn't place him. Then it came to me; I saw him a week or so ago on an episode of VH1's Behind The Music. So I approached and mentioned that he looked familiar and asked if he played drums. After confirming that he did, I asked if he was the drummer in Grand Funk and he was - Don Brewer. He was in Florida for his daughters college graduation. If I hadn't seen the BTM episode so recently, I wouldn't know him from Adam. Another time, saw Guns 'n Roses guitarist, Slash, pushing a shopping cart behind his girlfriend at a Park City, UT supermarket during the Sundance film festival back in 2003.
  20. Need to add another option, since my "accomplishment" was initially yours as well. I could get two colours and that was it. Haven't picked one up in probably 30 years but would like to give it a "spin" again...
  21. While working for a music marketing company in '97 or '98, I grabbed a copy of The Artistry of Freddie Hubbard and was hooked from there...
  22. Two interesting 7" that I found at an estate sale over the weekend. First one is an Art Van Damme 78RPM 7" and the second one has Frank Socolow and Clyde Lombardi, with Sam Ulano on drums. Haven't listened to them yet but both are in minty condition, so that's always a plus...
