I just read that this is in mono only! I know that's the way Brian hears it but I always like the stereo versions of Beach Boy albums- even pet sounds. Does a good stereo version of Good Vibrations exist? I notice that on the Good Vibrations box set it's in mono.

So has anyone heard this yet? Is the reconstructed "Smile" very different than what one could do oneself with the material from the sessions on the "Good Vibrations" box set?

Are there any recordings with Mingus? Bootlegs?

clear channel cuts hundreds

So is there anything legal you think companies shouldn't do as long as it makes money for shareholders? Read your question again and the answer is obvious. So why don't we turn it back to you and say 'what legal things companies can do in the interests of shareholders should they be prevented from doing?" Oops, there it is, as clear as day. Declaring something legal to be "illegal" because the left doesn't like it. There you have it, liberal thought in all its freedom-hating and free-market hating glory. You miss the point. I wasn't suggesting anything be made illegal, I was trying to find out if you would disapprove of as long as it made money for the shareholders. I added "legally" because I presumed that you would mnot think they should do anything illegal. -

Just played all three cds again on the way to LA and back. Great record(s)!. BTW Allen: You write that "Moma, Mercy comes in Spurts" is "based on an old Paramount recording..." Which one? It seems to me to borrow a phrase from Johnson's "Come on in My Kitchen", though as you add the Paramount record was "probably based on a field holler". Maybe the same one from which Johnson borrowed. Or maybe he heard the record you're talking about. Also who's playing tambourine or whatever on Harlem Ashram? Did you or Shipp have something tied to your foot?

New Coleman Hawkins Mosaic big box coming
medjuck replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I'm a bit surprised that they left out Miss Hannah from the McKinney's Cotton Pickers session but used two takes of Wherever There's a Will Baby from the same session. Neither songs strike me as essential but I like the Don Redman vocal on both of them. (I only know about Miss Hannah because it's on the Bluebird "Coleman Hawkins: A Retrospective" 2 cd set.) -

Just downloaded the Hawkins from Amazon for $4.52! (I already had the Strayhorn/Hodges.) -
Phooey! (I think I'n one of the only people who almost always prefers stereo when it's available.)

I was just glancing at his autobiography in a book store and discovered that he got his first singing gig at The Royal Roost through his friendship with Lester Young. his first accompanist was Al Haig. He's 80 years old and fell asleep waiting for an interview. Early morning one maybe. What's amazing is he even looks pretty good when he's asleep. As to the nasty comments about him: you may not agree with his politics but he's done a lot more for other people during his life than I suspect most of us have. -
Have y ou compared it ro Shazam? I think Soundhound claims to recognize music even if you're hearing it live, but it's never done so for me.

Ah, yes. Fitting.

Wow, that;s great. What's the song Duke's playing?
-
I'd also like to thank Chuck for doing whatever he dos so that the names of songs and the Album show up on my car radio when I play them. Most majore releases just say "unknown disc" and give the track number.

I've got his recording with Gil Evans. Sounded like most other Gil records form the period. I should listen again.

Mosaic to release next Jazz Icons DVD set
medjuck replied to jazzbo's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
This probably sounds stupid, but I wish they'd package them in the thinner boxes that Reeling in the Years used for their two blues releases. My shelves are getting full and it makes me think twice about buying these. -

Making the next album: CD or MP3/FLAC only?
medjuck replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Hard to say without knowing what it costs to make cds, but I like the idea of "pressing" 300 cds as a limited edition and then download only. -

What does he do with the Goodman Sextet and Christian? I couldn't find it here or on Leo Valdes's Christian discography. (Doesn't mean it's not there, just that I couldn't find it.) he plays trumpet.... but charlie christian plays only rhythm guitar. (it´s from a camel caravan (14.10.1939)"ain´t misbeahvin´". keep boppin´ marcel The notes indicate it's with the full band (I think).

New Coleman Hawkins Mosaic big box coming

I have the Affinity set which claims to be complete but has none of the Fletcher Henderson sides. (Horace but not Fletcher.) Just pray that Mosaic doesn't ship via Canada Post. There are many things in Canada better than in the US but the post office isn't one of them. -

I don't understand what this means. I see they've included all the alternates but they've done that before. Why would this opportunity not exist in the future? Because someone might reclaim some rights, some douchebags might extend copyright laws, Mosaic (or the world at large) might go under... make your pick Let me put it another way: What does "it was imperative we issue them in complete form" mean? That they're using all takes? What is a full performance? -

Wasn't tomorrow wonderful. At least Boyd Raeburn was.
