What! I just phoned and asked them to hold it for me until after Xmas since I'll be away after the 16th.

I didn't expect the sonics to be so much better than the Off the Record release and in fact probably wouldn't have ordered the set were it not for the extra cds of music that Pops and King Oliver might have heard. They turned out to be even more interesting than I expected.

I have a 2 cd set of Chappaqua Suite issued by Sony France. Don't think it was around long. Glad I got it when I could.

I just ordered it used from Amazon for $8.

That's where I first heard the Elvis too. Not sure where they found this version but it's even longer than the one on "Reconsider Baby".

Wow! There's a rumour/myth that one of the versions of Bob Dylan's first single, Mixed Up Confusion, was with a "Dixieland band". Given that John Hammond was the producer, if it really happened it might have been pretty interesting.

Well to answer my own questions: Peter Losin tells me: For "Stella," the originally-issued version consists of take 3 until the end of the tpt introduction, then the remainder from take 7. The edit point is 1:39, at which point an extra beat is introduced.

But does that happen on take 7? And is the handover done via an edit? Now I wish I still had a copy of Miles '58 given that take 7 isn't even on the Miles/Coltrane box set.

And Gene di Novi. I forgot that he had played with Bird as well as Prez. Radio broadcasts with Bird from Royal Roost on March 5th and March 12th 1949. Recorded with Pres on Dec 29 '47. Results now on Blue Note. To the best of my knowledge still alive and living in Toronto. (Not sure he's still in Toronto.)

They don't seem to have discs 5&6 up(yet). Maybe Sony wanted to make sure you had to buy the cds to hear the whole set. Or maybe Spotify just doesn't like Wayne.

I preordered it so it arrived yesterday. Kicking myself till I saw they only charged the new price. Nice package and they give credit to Peter Losin for supplying some of the source material.

You're in for some treats: I think Peanuts appears on more cuts here than anyone else.

I appreciate all that Mosaic does and know that they have limited resources but perhaps they should consider asking volunteers to help on the editing, proof reading and layout of their booklets: e.g. pages 19-20.
