  1. The 'Portrait of a Legend' looks good(many into SACD rate it highly for sound and content), but make sure to get "Night Beat", also.
  2. Lockjaw with Flanagan Trio: Straight Ahead (Pablo) Wayne Shorter: "JuJu" (stereo original)
  3. Here is another twist to this whole thing. What do you think? When I see PD and rip-off labels(Lone Hill/Disconforme, etc..) and their titles being discussed(where to buy, etc.), yet CD-R trading being frowned on, it makes me laugh. These labels are doing nothing more than putting a CD-R in an oficial looking package. No license paid for, no royalties paid, no source tapes, etc.. These titles are just copies of someone's 45, 78, LP or CD, and are marketed like they are something else. Furthemore, I would much rather trade CD-R's at this point, than have someone give their money to these outfits. Am I alone on this??
  4. A bunch of Dylan Sundazed mono reissues. Hwy 61 is a nice one...
  5. bought many of mine for 4 bucks a pop. glad I got 'em.
  6. I wonder which beer I recommend??
  7. Another thought......Acoustic Sounds is remastering 100 Fantasy jazz/blues titles in analog for their 45 RPM series. I believe they are on the 3rd series of 25. They did both 33 1/3 and some 45 RPM with the Creedence(Fantasy owned) titles. I would love to see Hoffman and Gray(cutting engineer) turn around and do the jazz titles in 33 1/3 analog, for about $20 a title.
  8. Quite a few of my OJC's sound great, also. At the moment it's Oliver Nelson: Straight Ahead. Here's is a LINK to Acoustic Sounds' stock.
  9. Agree completely. This was a great movie. ← Yep!!
  10. Love Letters / Roy Haynes AUTUMN LEAVES/ The Great Jazz Trio Live at JAZZ STANDARD / The Lonnie Plaxico Group
  11. I count about 190 titles 'in-stock' or 'pre-order'. If I'm not mistaken in my count, that's the good news. Bad news...as many of you know, these are from digital masters. In most cases, very nicely done, but still..... $10 a pop, and may be a buck or two cheaper if you order direct from Fanatsyjazz.com(I have not checked recently). I'll probably order 10 or so, cross checking to see if better mastered copies are available. The obvious are the 45RPM, all analog titles from this catalog, but at $50 a pop, I pause.
  12. Jack Johnson: Brushfire Fairytales Jack Johnson: In Between Dreams Horace Parlan: On The Spur Of The Moment (Classic Records)

    DVD-Audio from LP

All this fuss over copies/dubs that will, all things being equal, sound slighly worse than the original they were taken from. It's nice that you can make a better copy, but hardly revolutionary or of value to most people, given the state of DVD-A. Most people that are into sound, to the degree needed to appreciate what you are doing, do not want(or need) to listen to a copy. There are a few exceptions that have been mentioned. You really need to be hounding the labels/artists/recording engineers/hardware manufacturers/etc. to start using this technology correctly, so we can enjoy new music to it's fullest. And even then, it will be so severly limited by many other factors that, nine times out of ten, the potential improvement will be lost. This is, IMO, one of the major reasons DVD-A never took off.
  14. First time I've seen Avantgarde's basshorn(the thing in the middle). Another picture....
  15. How did this effort for Epic come about? A quick break from BN? Every time I spin this one, I wonder.
  16. Most places charge $30, but I use Red Trumpet for 2 reasons. They have been completely understanding regarding Classic Records spotty quality of late and take returns without a hastle. They also have sales once every couple months. Right now they are having a 10% off 4th of July sale, and often they will have a $4 off items over $20-25 sale. Plus, free shipping for purchases over $50. So, I pay $26-27 each, with free shipping. Still pricey, but the best I've found. What titles are you thinking about?
  17. Man, Linn sure treated you right!!! What's the warranty on your little Klimaxs? Lifetime?
  18. as it turns out all 4 discs are warped and first tracks on each side skip badly for the first 2-3 mins before settling to a lower grade brushing sound. Although the set was inexpensive I'm gutted. ← Time to try some Speaker's Corner reissues. You will pay more, but you should get some flat, quiet and good sounding reissues. I'll tell you, all my SC reissues get played a ton, because they are an excellent product. Their latest Lester Young Norgran title is what analog and vinyl is all about.
  19. Something is wrong with me. When I look at this picture, all I think about is what kind of fish are a half mile off shore. I don't think Mariah has to imitate anyone's look. Those friggin' legs have been around for 20 years...!!!! In addition, the only thing wrong with half these R&B singers is over production, over dubbing, multi-tracking of the voice God gave 'em. Give them a mic and 3 guys in the band and I'm as happy as a clam. But, the shit they pull in the studio is just flat out hilarious.
  20. Damn you! That's where they went!! ← Not originals, but very nice reissues, if that eases your pain a bit.
  21. Pres and Sweets Pres and Teddy Very nice mono reissues from years ago. Classic Records or Speaker's Corner should do these, as they both seem to be into the Verve catalog.
  22. Finding 50 Blue Note/Prestige/Riverside classic titles in a guys garage was totally unexpected, if not bizarre.
  23. For those with a vinyl fetish, 4 Men With Beards recently released a stellar reissue of Aretha's Live At The Fillmore West.
  24. Yes, and I do not like it one bit. As much as I want to support vinyl, I'm about done with buying digital LP's. I'll buy a few if I hear they sound great. It keeps pressing plants busy, but how expensive would it have been for Revenant to have the LP's done in analog? I'm pretty sure the guy at 4 Men with Beards would have been happy to do it. New titles recorded digitally and slapped on vinyl is bad enough, but reissues recorded in analog.....
