  2. Yep!! Love them Q LP's!! My god, you stole that Evans/Davis set!!
  3. I'll tell you who is doing a great job with vinyl and jazz these days...Eighty-Eight's(japan). Their team is a who's who of great jazz, great mastering, nice vinyl and great recording, both past and present. Yasohachi Itoh David Baker Tohro Kotetsu (JVC Mastering Japan) And they are originals, not reissues. Give one a spin.
  4. Any more dates on the Eighty-Eight's label?
  5. Can someone translate the above post for me.
  6. Hugh Masekela / Almost Like Being In Jazz Straight Ahead Records Quiex SV-P 200g This premier release from the newly formed audiophile recording Label "Straight Ahead Records" features Hugh Masekela on Flugelhorn, Larry Willis on Piano, John Heard on bass and Lorca Heart on drums. 7. Sinatra and Jobim (Reprise/Rhino reissue) Joss Stone (Soul Sessions) UK vinyl
  8. Oh boy, I'm sure they'd love your input HERE, Chris.
  9. First time through my recently arrived Monk: Black Lion/Vogue LP set.
  10. Thanks, for the time and effort put into this post.
  11. This is redundant, I'm sure. I regretted not picking up many a set during Mosaic's vinyl days, but since vinyl is dead and guys are happy with their burns and individual CD's, I'm continually picking up the titles I missed, at normal prices. Due in tomorrow is the Mingus: Vogue and Candid set. That being said, I do regret not getting the Mobley LP set. That sucker sold out in a heartbeat and still goes for big $$ on ePay. I'm still ok with the originals and Classic Records re-issues I have.
  12. Happy Birthday, Jim!! May your B-3 continue to sing!! May all all your Tung-Sol's be true in tone with unending longevity!!!
  13. MartyJazz, come back and cover Brownie's back!!!! 1961 - John Coltrane (Freddie Hubbard, Eric Dolphy, McCoy Tyner, etc..) record session for Atlantic (Ole) This is missing from my collection. More than a few list this as one of their favorites. Maybe, I'll order it on it's anniversory. 1963 - Dexter Gordon (Bud Powell, Pierre Michelot, Kenny Clarke) record session for BN (Our Man In Paris) Have had this one(RVG CD) playing in the car for a week. Good stuff!
  14. Must agree about Sun Volt vs. Wilco. Have not picked up anything real new recently, but these are holding up very well..... Ryan Adams: Cold Roses Bright Eyes: I’m Wide, Awake It’s Morning Rilo Kiley: More Adventurous...what is it about this one????? Not rock, but old school country in a style I like(and does not insult) is Laura Cantrell. New one coming out on Matador. I love the Sundazed. Just a great voice, decent songs and a couple other guys in the band. LMK what you think. Probably, for those who do not like the voice of Lucinda Williams. Just do not expect LW's song writing. The Hold Steady looks interesting. I've been pretty much enamored by Patti Smith's latest.
  15. Jeez! I may have to see this "Sin City", if only for the feminine exposure. Any same sex scenes???
  16. It's been a while so I've got "Soul Stream" spinning around.
  17. FWIW there is a link to a short review at Classic's site.
  18. One dull, one bright...sounds like a nursury rhime. I believe our Italian friend(Porcy62) has this one. I do not have this one in any edition or format, so I'd be intersted in comments, also.
  19. Frankly, I have been puzzled for years why the UK is not the leader in quality jazz vinyl re-issues. All pale in comparison to Japan, and have for 20 years. I picked up Pure Pleasure Records(UK) re-issue of Johnny Shine's, "Last Night's Dream" and it's a winner, though it's blues. On the near horizon are Abbey Lincoln's, "Straight Ahead"(Candid) and Weston's, "Little Niles"(United Artist). Re-mastered from the original master tapes by Ray Staff at Alchemy. I'll be grabbing these. Another one is "Newport Rebels" which I've heard of, but really know little about. A few of their titles are mastered and cut by Kevin Gray(Acoustic Sounds 45RPM/D2D, etc. cutter). I have enough of Gray's vinyl work(Rhino Sinatra's and APO D2D are recent examples) to know he is one of the best. After watching Classic, Speaker's Corner, 4 Men With Beards, Acoustic Sounds and Sundazed grow from nothing, here's to hoping Pure Pleasure does the same(w/o 200 gram )!!!
  20. How about as a side man?? Heavy Soul/Ike Quebec It Might As Well Be Spring/Ike Ouebec
  21. Here is another thing I've heard from a reliable source. RTI also does plating right there at the pressing plant, but Classic goes somewhere else. Some feel this a cause of some of the problems. Chuck, I'm sure if you took a tour of Classic's process you'd see what was going on. Hoffman does know about quiet, defect free vinyl. He uses RTI's plating and pressing services. I'd like to be more specific. Thing is, the people who could shed real light are employees. From Bernie Grundman(mastering engineer) on down the line to the folks at RTI. They aren't really talking, or naming names.
  22. Yes, the QC issues Classic is having are quite interesting, if what I've read is true. From what I gather, RTI(pressing plant) has tried to convince Classic not to do the 200 gram pressings as they are very hard to do. Classic refuses to go back to doing 180 gram. This is why I blame Classic and not the pressing plant for all the defects in the 200gram vinyl. I have tons of great 180 gram vinyl from RTI. Then again, why doesn't RTI refuse Classic's business?
  23. Not really sure what you are saying. Trust? I buy from Classic because I've purchased a lot of their product(over 10-15 years now) and have been happy with it. They are having problems with QC lately and there has always been debate over the best sounding this and the best sounding that. Regarding Hoffman, pretty much the same thing. His DCC efforts were great. His S&P efforts are great. Others can attest to his efforts/results on the 45RPM series of 100 Fantasy jazz/blues titles that's in progress, as I have none.
  24. Baker does some sweet blowin' alongside Pepper on the Pacific Jazz sessions. And, Sheldon pretty much saves, or adds a great deal to, a couple Contemporary sessions of Pepper's. Sheldon changes things up and does not make Art carry the whole show. "Meets The Rhythm Section" seems to pale in comparison after listening to these other Pepper sessions.
  25. Is Fantasy/Concord done with SACD's? If not, I'd imagine this title would be in the next batch or two.
