Do not know if there are any currently/recently in print. I like my 1997 MCA/GRP IMP 200 copy. Very heavy vinyl(200 gram?) and nice sonics, produced by Cuscuna. May be a few of these still floating around. Try GEMM or Ebay. If you want some other nice Impulse reissues try Speakers Corner. They usually have a few in their current catalog. Blues and the Abstract Truth is one.

BTW-I happened to listen to the CONN of Fuchsia Swing Song today and agree, it's a nice listen. Ok, 'brightness' and 'too crisp' works for me. It's very interesting reading and listening with the endless array of BN originals and reissues around.

Just curious.... Did you hear this tape hiss(I assume that's what it is) on the CDR? If you could describe the noise a bit more, I'd appreciate it. Have others noticed this on the Mosaic CD set?

Finally!! These two coming my way: Dexter Gordon - Doin' Alright Lee Morgan - The Sixth Sense

More of the Tristano, Konitz and Marsh Atlantic Mosaic set. Have listened to it all. I think it's a good sign when a 10 LP set seems too short. Another LP or two of trio and solo Tristano would be nice, for starters.

Revenant is planning big Albert Ayler box
wolff replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Looks like an amazing box! Going to listen to some samples and if it doesn't sound too 'suicidal' or like 'insanity', maybe I'll get it. Feel like buying it just to support outfits that put out quality. -
I think the original post is off a bit and the attacks on the remastering, a bit premature. This is a very, very, very soft and quiet solo. Carter is barely touching the strings. The piano and drums that accompany him play very, very softly. I mean, they are barely touching their instruments, also. I think it's lovely. The delicacy comes through in the recording and for that I applaud RVG. It's a super job and if a reissue preserves this, well done. Like I said earlier, this is a very decent sounding BN (I have a few to compare it to) and I've liked it since day one.

Tristano, Konitz and Marsh Atlantic Mosaic set. Really enjoyed the solo Tristano disc and the Konitz 'Inside Hi-Fi' may be best album I've heard in a while. To my untrained ear I sure hear a lot of Art Pepper in Konitz or Konitz in Pepper.

Once again, I'm very pleased with a Mosaic set!
wolff posted a topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
This time it's the Tristano, Konitz and Marsh Atlantic set. Great quality and value added. Can't wait for my next one. -
Interesting question....a can of worms I will not open. 'Is the bass weak on other pressings?' Listening to original vinyl now. Always liked this titles' sound. Yes, I guess recessed is a way to describe the bass. I also think it's a very, very quiet, soft solo. When he plucks a lower string harder I get a bit of 'slam', but other than that I have to strain to hear it. Definitely down in the mix as evidenced by the powerfully present sound of the flute after his solo.

Finally, set the stylus on my new(to me) Tristano, Konitz and Marsh Mosaic!!!!

Classic Records and Speakers Corner have done a few of these, too.

Yes, finding tt's to try out can be hard. Regarding cartridges, just use the same one. Sure it's a pain, but if you are shopping for 2k+ tt's it's worth the effort. Here is another suggestion. Find an audiophile club in your area. They bring in different pieces of gear each meeting. Sometimes turntables get a turn.

Or too lazy to get them out and play them? I noticed this in myself recently and decided to remedy the situation. Hopefully, my experience will be of value to all. Every week or so I take a different set and take all the discs out(LP's in my case) and place them in a cleared out spot in my shelves. I now have very easy access to each disc and when I'm done playing one it goes to the end of the line. It's working great and the Mosaics are getting the playing time they deserve. BTW It would take me about 3 to 4 months to play them all if I played one disc a day, and I only have 14 sets.

Big John Patton: Got A Good Thing Goin'

Wolf, why is that? What do you especially like about these TTs? I'm also interested, nore generally, in how one compares the audio quality of TTs. What do you look for when buying a TT? I like the whole package. Great looks, great sound and construction/machining. Nice smallish footprint. The weight is another matter. Great upgrade path. Top notch motor and bearings. Compare these to others in their price range. Comparing audio quality is easy if you can live with the tt for a while. Which one plays the music in a natural, relaxed manner with good dynamics. Which one sucks you into the music. Black backgounds, weight and air around instruments are cool. Some tt sound light weight, some too heavy, some sluggish, some miss much of what's in the grooves. I could go on, but in the end it's which sounds closest to real music. It's really not complicated if you can compare for extended periods.

I'm in love with these.....turntables. Was ready to buy a slightly used one(245), but deal fell through.

I'd say yes, but I do not know if every release gets to BMG. It may be 3 months before you see any at BMG.

Interview with RVG ...
wolff replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Thanks for doing this!! The mention of RVG brings up something I've had on my mind. The RVG, "A Night At Birdland Vol. 2", I just got and have been listening to is bad, bad, bad. The high frequencies are some of the worst, most distorted, etc. I've ever heard and I've heard a lot. It ruins the listening on more than one occasion. I'm very surprised there is not an apology and explanation. The vinyl copies I have of this material sound fine. -

E-mail from Red Trumpet: HUGE NEWS FROM RED TRUMPET JAPAN!!! Unfortunately, we are forbidden to announce exactly what this is until October 5th. However... for you vinyl hounds and specifically those who love jazz, there is a series of pressings being released from Japan on December 22! All are direct cut from original master tape, all analogue and pressed on 180 gram vinyl. These will be available only on a first-come, first-served basis. I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Beach Boys: Endless Summer (Greatest Hits) garage sale yesterday. Lady brought out all of 2 records and this was one of them. Got lots of Avon products, too.

Andrew Hill - Dance with Death Sam Rivers - Contours I've had the above for years and highly recommend them. I have a feeling the sound will be above average on these (my vinyl sonics are top notch). If not, someone screwed up. Larry Young - Of Love and Peace Had the above for a short time and if you do not have much Young, I say get it.
