LOL Did you forget to add DAD-A? HDCDXRCDSACDCDDAD-A The front of digital products is a maze of Logos. The major companies have our upgrade path laid out for us. When will the general public learn that just because it's a new technology does not mean it is better. I do not try to keep up with it anymore.

Mastering by Mark Wilder, the man who has worked with the original "Kind of Blue" more than any man on the planet through his remastering role at Sony Great sonics stretches the "New Blue" well past the 45-minute limits of the vinyl LP heyday, brings its production values into the digital realm, plus captures several of the missing ingredients critics have been scratching their head about for years. WTF are they talking about?? I laughed as I read this promo release. Someone should have drug Wilder to Grundman's Mastering years ago!! What are these shortcomings? Figures someone from SONY would still praise digital.

My 'World of Piano" is the original black, stereo label. Original mono's are yellow. Green labels are 70's re-issues that sound very inferior in many cases. I also have an original mono of "The Great Jazz Piano of Phineas Newborn Jr.", but it's has a white, 'not for sale' promo label on it. Only one I've seen. I wish I had many more titles from their catalog. I have a bunch, but most are the less desirable/ more affordable titles. A pretty good one, with top sound is Manne's "Gambit". Best cymbols I've heard, with some interesting tunes. My favorite is the 2LP set "Manne and His Men at The Manne Hole", with Conte Condoli, Richie Kamuca, Russ Freeman and Chuck Berghofer. I also have many OJC Contemporary's(all the one's that are too pricey now ), Theie sound is good, but a lot was lost in the transfer.

at the recordings of Contempoary Records. Listening to a stereo copy of Phineas Newborn Jr. / A World of Piano. This was recoded in 1961. I would so love it if all my jazz LP's sounded like this. Incredible sense of rightness to the sound and the highs are as good as it gets. Makes my Blue Notes sound terrible(the added reverb is a joke) and way over processed by comparison. A few of my RCA's come pretty close to this clean, undistorted sound. Also, the stereo spread is way, way ahead of anything recorded at this time. No left, right and middle that makes you want to flip the mono switch. Most of their original LP's sound reminds me of walking into Jazz Alley, it's that natural. Makes me want to go knock on DuNann's door(he lives about 4 miles away) and thank him.

$168.05 MILES DAVIS COMPLETE BLACKHAWK SESSIONS 6 LP's MOSAIC $108 $202.50 MILES DAVIS COMPLETE BITCHES BREW SESS. 6 LP's MOSAIC $108 $147.50 MILES DAVIS COMPLETE IN A SILENT WAY SESS. 5 LPs MOSAIC $90 Causes me pain to see this occur. Who wants to e-mail them and let him know the good news? Not me. I contacted the guy who won the Blackhawk, and he said 'thanks' and was trying to figure out how to retract his bid. I guess he did not figure it out in time.

Bitches Brew Mosaic Still available new for $108. Seller says 'long out of print". Well, at least the reserve has not been met. Samr thing going on with the Blackhawk set. Are these more valuable used than new?

Press release I read a few days ago: look for Microsoft(owner of XRCD technology...they get a cut) and Sony(owner of SACD technology...they get a cut) to join forces and create the most advanced audio format yet. Sony, still hurting from CD patent expiring and the slow movement of SACD into the mainstream has decided to try another avenue...the XRCDSACD. Due out this fall. Man, I'm soooooooooo glad I stuck with vinyl.

"public domain" re-issue companies do not put out the Blue Note 5000/10" series. They have aleady done most of the Davis, Powell, Monk, Blakey, Brown and Silver Blue Notes from this era.

Crap, I wish I was able to do the Plugged Nickel now(want LP's in trade? ). I'm sure we could have worked someting out. Around $200 is what would be a fair price. I recall seeing it go for less, but $200 seems about right. The Brooks is usually around $75-$110.

Do you do much tube rolling to customize the sound of the amp? 4 X 12AX7, 2 X 12AT7, 4 X 6L6,......many new old stock and current manufacture to try in these types.

As more and more of the Fantasy jazz catalogue(Prestige/Contemporary/New Jazz/Bluesville, etc.) goes into the public domain in EU countries I have no idea why anyone would buy it. Concord will never be able to compete with the new companies(labels) focusing on these labels/performances/albums for re-issue. In a few short years all of Davis' and Coltranes' albums(Fantasy's biggest sellers) will have gone over to public domain in EU countries and re-issued. I'm sure certain Spanish and Italian public domain labels will be issuing their box set versions of the "Complete Prestige Recordings of..." soon. In about 2009, I'm sure the "Complete Prestige Recordings Gene Ammons" will be a decent seller for these public domain labels. US laws will mean little when a few clicks of the mouse will have these on my doorstep in a few days.

Note on the seller - Atomic Records [out of LA, if I remember correctly]. They grossly misrepresented the condition of a pricey record I bought from them on eBay and I had a tough time getting a refund. It took a good month. Maybe I just wasn't lucky... I bought one item from him, but I forget what it was. I remember his grading being a bit too positive, but I took that into account when bidding. I knock most sellers grading down a notch just in case. Then when I get an actual mint record, that was graded as such, I'm pleasantly surprised.
