I'm glad I picked up a copy, as it is a good one. I've seen Bobby Watson a few times--most memorably with Horizon in Vancouver in the early 1990s. I'm recalling one other time with him as leader at Sweet Basil, a more electric group with Rachel Z. Then a few years ago leading a Jazz Messengers reunion at Iridium. He's been a pleasure every time.

The second disc of the AFBF begins with several songs by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee in good form. Then, several excellent songs by T-Bone Walker, backed by a trio including Willie Dixon on bass and Jump Jackson on drums. Some "purists"/idiots in the audience are offended by T-Bone Walker's showmanship and start to boo. T-Bone Walker and group then back up vocals from Helen Humes for several songs, before a closing song featuring everyone from the concert. The third disc awaits, but I did have to skip ahead to hear T-Bone Walker perform Moanin'.

According to the liner notes of the American Folk Blues Festival release, the tapes of the two concerts presented were rediscovered in December of 2014. The first two CDs present a complete and unedited evening concert at the Olympia Theater in Paris, in clear and well recorded sound. The third disc is a midnight concert from the same day. I've just listened to the first disc; it is fantastic.

I have Musique de nuit; it is indeed beautiful (kora and cello duet). Parts of it were recorded on the roof of Ballake Sissoko's home in Bamako, Mali.

Last night, New Orleans blues musician Chris Thomas King was rather inexplicably performing in Little Elm, Texas at a place called Rock 101. A 26 mile, though fairly easy, drive from my home, the venue turned out to be a bar/restaurant, but with a stage and decent sound. Chris Thomas King performed solo on electric or acoustic guitar and vocals--a mixture of country blues (Hard Times Killin' Floor Blues), modern blues (Hideaway), and his original material. A rather fine performance it was; I really enjoyed the set. The setting was not so great, as maybe 20 people or so were there to see Chris Thomas King and listened attentively, while the rest of the place was populated by a loud, indifferent bar crowd.

The Mangione Brothers Sextet, The Jazz Brothers (Riverside), and Barney Kessel, Ray Brown, Shelly Manne, Poll Winners Three (Contemporary)

Sonny Stitt, All God's Children Got Rhythm (Prestige, mono, NJ Fireworks label). Cover in poor shape and the LP looked marginal too, but in fact it sounds great, the best sounding version of the material with Bud Powell I've heard.

Kimio Eto and Bud Shank, Koto & Flute (World Pacific), Gerald Wilson Orchestra, Portraits (Pacific Jazz), and Gerry Mulligan/Chet Baker, Timeless (Pacific Jazz).

Bebel Gilberto at the Kessler Theater. A pretty spare concert, with just voice and guitar. Live Brazilian music is rare in these parts, and there is nothing wrong with her voice or the guitarist--I liked a few songs, but overall not so much, something was missing for me.

Debut in Blues has finally been issued on CD, albeit in a pricey Japanese edition. Dustygroove is currently selling copies.

Not yet, but I ordered the American Folk Blues 1962 release.

Jazz Showcase, Introducing the Mastersounds (World Pacific). A quite enjoyable, great sounding LP, highlighting vibes and fender bass.

My Liberty label copy has a 37 years of Blue Note inner sleeve.
