  1. Charles Earland, Live at the Lighthouse (Prestige/Fantasy)
  2. The Capitol Vaults Don Pullen appears to consist of the two George Adams/Don Pullen Blue Notes and the two Don Pullen trio Blue Notes, which I believe is what was included in the Select.

  4. I don't recall seeing Paul Guerrero play live, but do recall hearing his name as playing about town. He died in 1989. Link is to Modern Drummer article about Paul Guerrero's music career. http://www.lehman.edu/academics/arts-humanities/music/documents/paul_guerrero_article.pdf
  5. Miles Davis at the Blackhawk, volume 2.
  6. Charlie Byrd, Jazz Recital (Savoy), Ronnie Ball, All About Ronnie (Savoy), and Trio Los Panchos, Boleros Selectos (Columbia ten inch).
  7. Late night set--the trio of Stacey Dillard, Ismael Lowe, and Diallo House. Subsequently adding Tivon Pennicott.
  8. Johnny Hodges, Creamy (Verve), and Teddy Wilson, I Got Rhythm (Verve)
  9. I would love to see Bassekou Kouyate. Conflicts with jazz events is not usually a problem, it's usually a distance problem (anything good is usually at least 200 miles away).
  10. This year has been a bit frustrating on the live African music front, as I was planning on seeing both Rokia Traore and King Sunny Ade and their concerts were cancelled. So far I've only seen Vieux Farka Toure at the New Orleans Jazz Fest. Now I'm excited to have the opportunity to see Vieux Farka Toure again, along with Uganda's Kinobe, at the Wobeon Music Fest in Austin. http://wobeonfest.com/2015-headliner-announce Has anyone had interesting live music experiences this year with African music?
  11. Baden Powell, Aquarelles du Bresil (Barclay), and Bill Evans, Montreux II (CTI).
  12. Bob Brookmeyer, Revelations (New Jazz)
  13. It doesn't sound like they are including the Lester Young material in the William Savory collection--too bad.

  15. I can see tipping a club employee who actually sells the CDs, but otherwise this seems like a nickel and dime abuse of artists.
  16. Ruddresh Mahanthappa did show up for his concert in Plano. I was really not sure what to expect. It turned out to be a good concert. First part was Rudresh fronting a big band (including faculty members of Collin College and UNT graduates)--playing a mixture of arrangements of his own material and a few songs composed and/or arranged by band members. Then there was a small group portion of the concert, with Rudresh playing material from Bird Calls with the rhythm section of the big band. Finally, the big band returned to play Chillin' from Bird Calls. So it was an actual interesting musical event, especially to hear large group arrangement/performances of Mr. Mahanthappa's music, and his features with the small group.
  17. Placed a contribution in the mail today.
  18. Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker, Carnegie Hall Concert, Volume 1 (CTI), and George Benson, Good King Bad (CTI)
  19. Dizzy Gillespie Octet, The Greatest Trumpet of Them All (Verve), Phil Moore's Music For Moderns/Calvin Jackson solo (Clef), and Airto, Free (CTI).
  20. Charles Earland, Charles III (Prestige/Fantasy, promo)
  21. A decent artist insulting a great one, not really funny.
  22. I hope so--his website has corrected the conflicting concert listing, which is a few days prior.
  23. By the way, I inquired about the Rudresh Mahanthappa concert at Collin College and received the reply that the concert was at 7:30, was open to the public and there is no admission charge.

That is a challenge.
  25. For Albert Dailey, I rather like his album on Columbia (The Day After the Dawn). http://www.amazon.com/day-after-dawn-LP/dp/B00411ON3E/ref=sr_1_12?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1436933469&sr=1-12&keywords=Albert+Dailey
