  1. Curtis Fuller--Scat Jazz Lounge, Fort Worth.
  2. John Coltrane--Impressions (Impulse, black and orange label)
  3. Worlds Records sent out an email today announcing a 10% off sale and stating: And, wait, there's still more! Worlds has just come into possession of the remaining inventory of Storyville color label. This venerable Danish label was founded by "Papa" Knudsen and released over 350 titles on the Storyville, Jazz Unlimited, Collectors Classics, Nostalgia Arts and the Duke Ellington Treasury Series (DETS) labels. These titles are no longer being manufactured. When these CDs are gone they won't be available at these prices again. We have been offering Jazz Unlimited, Nostalgia Arts and then DETS for several months and now we have remaining stock of Storyville label as well.
  4. Earl Hines is GREAT!
  5. I have both Mosaic sets.
  6. Funny that you would single out his tenor playing , since he rarely played the instrument . Most of his recordings feature his excellent flute and alto playing , along with an occasional turn on clarinet . Something Blue is a personal favorite of mine , not least for the hard swing generated by vibist Emil Richards and by unsung pianist Paul Moer . I have almost all of Horn's pre-RCA recordings and would suggest that anyone interested in Horn-the-jazz-musician check out his three Columbia albums . Two of them are out on a Collectables 2-on-1 CD , but the final one , Impressions of Cleopatra , has yet to be reissued , but it's a real sleeper that flute fans will want to track down . Impressions of Cleopatra is a very good record. The best Paul Horn record I've heard.
  7. I don't have an extra--I am willing to make you a copy of the booklet.
  8. Earl Hines--Plays the Hits He Missed (Realtime Direct to Disc, German pressing) Clifford Jordan--Hello Hank Jones (East World Direct to Disc, Japanese pressing) Both LPs sound fantastic. Does anyone have any other direct to disc jazz recordings?
  9. In case there are any flamenco guitar fans (and vinyl fans), I noticed that an excellent RCA Living Stereo, Carlos Montoya LP, recorded live at Town Hall, seems to be attracting no attention in this ebay listing. Both the performance and the sound quality on this one are outstanding. (I can't vouch for the seller, though). http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...=tab%3DWatching
  10. The Jazz Makers (Columbia anthology, six eyes)
  11. It does appear that the 3 for 2 sale only applies to the somewhat lackluster list of selected CDs. That email was very misleading.
  12. Herbie Mann and Joao Gilberto--Recorded in Rio De Janeiro (Atlantic mono) Louis Armstrong--Hot Seven volume 2 (Columbia, six eyes)
  13. Bad cheek implants, for one thing.
  14. The Incredible Carlos Montoya--Historic Town Hall Concert (RCA Living Stereo)
  15. Grant Green--Idle Moments (Blue Note, Liberty, Van Gelder) Beatles--Rubber Soul (Capitol, mono)--The first LP I ever bought, way back in 1966 or so, it still sounds great. The Brazilian Guitar of Luiz Bonfa (Capitol, mono).
  16. Junior Mance Trio--That's Where It Is (Capitol)
  17. I wish I could be there--it's a great venue.
  18. Someone's on Microsoft's payroll.
  19. Yes, that's an excellent DVD.

    Dewey Redman

I purchased this recently from bmg, it is wonderful! I find it intersting that some musicians are able to convey warmth and authenticity while others just sound cold. This album, to me at least, is very moving. Particularly 'Love is' A good record. I saw him leading a quartet a couple of years after this recording--it was quite good but he inexplicably only played for 40 minutes or so in each of his two sets. I wonder if he was unhappy with his fee.
  21. Next, I recommend a mac.
  22. I suggest the HPB on Northwest Highway in Dallas, but only if you stop at my house before going there. Actually, I suspect HPB pays among the lowest prices obtainable.
  23. I was under the impression that places like Atomic Records in Burbank, and presumably our friends at Dusty Groves, still pay for collections. The Jazz Record Center and Academy in New York as well.
  24. Grimes' wife sent out an email alerting fans to two upcoming gigs with the Symphony for Improvisers Double Quartet (Dave Douglas w/ J.D. Allen, Henry Grimes, and Andrew Cyrille; and Roy Campbell, Jr. w/ Mixashawn, Hilliard Greene, and Hamid Drake) performing Aug. 24 in Saalfelden, Austria, and Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy,on Aug. 28. This group put on one of the best concerts I've seen in recent years (with William Parker on second bass being the only personnel difference). "Mixashawn" is Lee Rozie.
