  1. No, wasn't aware of that one. Also "Radius" (an early one from the 80s listed on the site) I don't have, neither do I have the two albums he did for one of those mainstream labels (was it Arabesque?) - how are those? Probably too tame for my liking? Radius was originally on the Mu label (copies turn up on ebay)--it's a fine recording. I didn't care for the Arabesque records when released, but the passage of time has changed my views. I also have an LP called Spirits Rebellious from 1988 on the Alacra label, which the liner notes say is his second release on the label--that is quite good.

  3. So you have to get up with these and flip them over every 8 or 10 minutes?
  4. Paul Bollenback turned out to be a good guitarist--plus he had Gary Thomas and Victor Lewis in his band. Also Ed Howard on bass and vocalist Chris Mcnulty. I was wondering why UTD seems to be the only college in Dallas regularly presenting jazz concerts--it appears the Dean of the college is a jazz fan--he introduced the concert and was actually sitting and attentively listening to the concert. Eastfield used to present jazz concerts years ago--I actually saw Freddie Hubbard, Dizzy Gillespie and Henry Butler there, in Mesquite of all places.
  5. "They" will still be able to find you.
  6. Herbie Mann--Yardbird Suite (Savoy)--a really nice sounding LP.
  7. Michael Vick's cellmate?
  8. Charlie Byrd-- Is! (Fontana)
  9. Yale Concert--Another OJC going out of print and available from newbury cheap: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00...3605&sr=1-1
  10. Up in Duke's Workshop--OJC going out of print--nice Pablo from the "stockpile" and available for a pittance from newbury. http://www.amazon.com/Dukes-Workshop-Duke-...3605&sr=1-1
  11. No one in Austin is excited about the rare chance to see the great Chico Hamilton? I would go myself except it is on a Wednesday night, 200 miles away.
  12. This is tonight. I'm not familiar with this guitarist, but judging from his discography, he may be worth seeing. 13. The Cole/Crawford features some very fine live Emily Remler--a nice record. It appears to be going out of print, with some inexpensive copies still available. http://www.amazon.com/Bossa-International-...3456&sr=1-1
  14. Possible, but my understanding is that companies that get bought out by private equity firms tend to outperform those that don't. Guy Only for the money guys. Only when the economy is rising. When the economy starts to go into a downward cycle, private equity leveraged buyout target companies often head for bankruptcy court.
  15. I hate that baggy pants look. The worst fashion trend ever.
  16. You are insane! P.S. I have 34 of the 45 recordings you list.
  17. I'm guessing you didn't enjoy the flaming Russian penis thread either. I was just in a bad mood and got pissed that our society's cult of pseudo-celebrities infested this world. I see enough of it in other places. I understand completely: "Photogenic Airheads Obstruct View of Sonically Perfect Club where the Coltrane and Mingus and Miles and Other Greats Played."
  18. I smell lawsuit!! In order to defend myself, I'm going to have to depose all the Victoria's Secret models.
  19. Yes, two clueless celebrities are pictured in a vapid gossip story, standing in front of the hallowed ground of the Village Vanguard, no doubt oblivious to the Village Vanguard's existence. It seemed amusing to me (but then I'm easily amused).
  20. Most likely, in a couple of years, they will be in bankruptcy court.
  21. Red Garland at the Prelude (Prestige mono)--This sure has beautiful sound.
  22. What's the music like? NP: Willow Weep for Me - Wes Montgomery - Verve stereo You get a picture of Elizabeth Taylor dressed as Cleopatra, on the cover. The full group is Paul Horn (flute and bass flute), Emil Richards (vibes), Victor Feldman (piano), Chuck Israels (bass), Colin Bailey (drums), and Larry Bunker (percussion). All of the music is composed by Alex North for the film Cleopatra, and the themse are quite beautiful. The music is very moody and atmospheric, for the most part, but there are also uptempo/swinging cuts and interludes (Victor Feldman is smoking on his solos). One of the better jazz groups plays movie themes recordings I've heard. I really enjoyed it. There are no notes; it does say copyright 1963.
