  1. Khari Allen Lee, Live at The Sound Wall
  2. It's a long boat ride from England to the West Coast!
  3. The Arrival of Victor Feldman (Contemporary) Sonny Stitt, Rearin' Back (Argo)
  4. To be specific about what is actually on this 84 minute CD: Latino Suite: From 1986, this is a trio performance, with Avery Sharpe and Louis Hayes. Eternally Yours: From 1981, this is solo piano. Fly With the Wind: From 2009,a quintet performance, with Gary Bartz, Bill Frisell, Gerald Cannon, and Eric Gravatt. Walk Spirit, Talk Spirit: From 1981, this is an octet, featuring John Blake and Arthur Blythe, in addition to McCoy, on this track. Ask Me Now: from 1986, this is a duet of McCoy Tyner and Joe Henderson. African Village and Ballad for Aisha: Both from 2009, the same quintet as above. A 3 CD set of all three concerts would have been nicer, but what is here is rather good.
  5. McCoy Tyner, The Montreux Years
  6. Last night, Stockton Helbing with Shelley Carrol at the Kitchen Cafe, playing a program of mostly Sonny Rollins originals.
  7. The price of the CD box set has dropped to $51 on amazon.
  8. Kane Mathis, Counterpoints
  9. Meshell Ndegeocello, The Omnichord Real Book (Blue Note)
  10. The Miles Prestige was a recent lucky find--the cover is not that good but the record is nearly flawless and sounds amazingly lifelike (black and yellow NJ pressing).
  11. Deak Harp, Clarksdale Breakdown
  12. Last night, back to Six Springs Live or the first time since before COVID. Glad it survived--a dive bar/concert venue in a strip mall in Richardson with excellent sound where the music comes first. A rare opportunity (in Dallas) to see Mississippi Hill Country Blues. After sitting through a couple of pedestrian local blues groups, finally there was the fabulous Deak Harp, straight from Deak's Mississippi Saxophone's and Blues Emporium in Clarksdale, Mississippi. A persistent fellow who followed James Cotton around until he became his driver then a band member, Deak has an incredible tone on harmonica, accompanying himself on guitar. Plus one of the best blues drummers I've ever heard, Quicksilver. Yes, that was just a duo producing all that sound.
  13. Walter Wanderley/Luiz Henrique, Popcorn (Verve) Miles Davis and The Modern Jazz Giants (Prestige) Shirley Scott, Mucho Mucho (Prestige)
  14. That Bassekou Kouyate set at Big Ears was great.
  15. Zamrock: Psychedelic rock from Zambia in the early 1970s. Only lasted a few years. Few survivors due to the AIDs epidemic. Recovered from utter obscurity by reissues on the Now Again label.
