WORLD PREMIERE | DACAMERA PRODUCTION KENDRICK SCOTT'S UNEARTHED Friday | May 12 | 8:00 PM Cullen Theater, Wortham Theater Center Kendrick Scott, composer/drums; Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton, poet; Robert Hodge, visual artist; Erin Earle Fleming, lighting design Gerald Clayton, piano; Walter Smith III, saxophone; Joe Sanders, bass; Harlem Quartet A new DACAMERA production inspired by the Sugar Land 95, bringing together Kendrick Scott's compelling jazz, Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton's dramatic spoken words and Robert Hodge's evocative visuals. Unearthed pays tribute to the tragic history behind the recent discovery of the remains of 95 Black people in unmarked graves in Sugar Land. They were convict laborers, swept back into “slavery by another name” in the post-Civil War era, arrested for petty crimes like vagrancy and forced into back-breaking and often fatal labor in the sugar fields of Texas. -
Big Ears will return March 21—24, 2024

The June issue arrived today. It is very peculiar--starts off with pages and pages of photos of some sort of jazz related gala in Harlem. No text, just captions. The "articles" that follow are the big print versions of articles. Very little text. I haven't attempted to read any of them. The informational aspect of the magazine (finding out about new releases and the activities of living musicians), the reason I subscribed, appears to be gone. It's sort of a jazz version of People Magazine.

Sure, she was going for the vast jazz fan swing vote. Actually, she was on the board of SF Jazz so presumably she is an actual jazz fan (and she sounds like one in the clip). The attached article has a photo of her with Bobby Hutcherson. https://londonjazznews.com/2020/11/10/kamala-harris-and-jazz-to-be-continued/ -
