Is this newly discovered Bird? Charlie Parker - Afro Cuban Bop: The Long Lost Bird Live Recordings, from Liberation Hall Perhaps not new stuff. This vinyl debut captures one of the biggest names in jazz, at the peak of his powers, live in concert. this 180-gram double set features 18 selections from charlie parker, one of jazz’s greatest saxophonists. all the recordings were captured in the late 1940s and early '50s at such storied venues as carnegie hall and birdland in new york, the jubilee in los angeles, and the portland civic auditorium. focused on experiments in afro-cuban fusion, parker is joined by a dazzling array of jazz legends including dizzy gillespie, milt jackson, art blakey, woody herman, stan kenton, red rodney, and others. the track listing matches the cast of musicians – classics ‘cherokee’ and ‘a night in tunisia’ are captured in pristine form, while maintaining the intimate jazz spontaneity of parker’s best recordings. the package includes an essay by rock keyboardist keith emerson.

I'm convinced to order.

The Mary Halvorson/Jamaaladeen Tacoma release was recorded in 2014 (recently released on Jamaaladeen Tacuma's bandcamp page), is well recorded, and is quite interesting/enjoyable. It is a bit short (29 minutes total) and it is a CDR (not specified on the page), so the bandcamp download might be the better choice. It is a very interesting duet recording.

Jackie Venson is a multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter known far and wide for her complexly beautiful music and blazing guitar skills. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Jackie has traveled the world playing to massive crowds both as a headliner and as support for major acts such as Gary Clark Jr, Melissa Etheridge, Aloe Blacc, Citizen Cope to name a few. With the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic, the cancellation of her entire tour schedule and the wave of social change sweeping across the country in 2020, Jackie committed herself to releasing more music than ever before, connecting with her fans directly and speaking up about the change she wanted to see in her city and country. Since then, Jackie has released two studio albums, two live albums under her name and several electronic albums under her side project titled jackie the robot. During the pandemic, Jackie Venson also made her National TV Performance Debut on Austin City Limits 46th season, a huge honor for the native Austinite.
