  1. Spencer Bohren, Dirt Roads
  2. Normally, virtually the only Indian Classical LPs one finds in the U.S. are by Ravi Shankar, so it is a real pleasure on infrequent occasions to find Indian pressings of other Indian classical artists. I particularly like Chitti Babu. Chitti Babu, The Sound of Veena (The Gramophone Company of India) Rais Khan, Khansaheb (The Gramophone Company of India)
  3. I have this LP, although in a mono version.

  15. I find that digital downloads pile up and I rarely listen to them, whereas CDs and LPs I always get to eventually.
  16. Yes, but when you clock on the CD or LP it shows the US dollar amount. For example, the vinyl is $30.85 USD, plus $20.57 shipping for United States.
  17. Unfortunately, shipping charges from the UK to the US are almost equal to the cost of the item. I hope dustygroove gets this in.

  21. Yesterday afternoon, in a Plano, Texas strip mall, Ravi Chary (who is on Miles from India) on sitar and Amit Davthekar on Tabla, for a rather wonderful concert of Indian classical music.
  22. Sitar Recital – Sublime Melodies A Baithak Style Concert Saturday, June 7, 4.00 PM Kathak Rhythms Studio - Plano 4020 Hedgcoxe Road, Suite 150, Plano, Texas 75024 Pandit Ravi Chary (Sitar) Amit Kavthekar (Tabla) Pandit Ravi Chary is the first sitarist to have emerged from the landscape of Goa. He is a sought-after performing artiste, both as a soloist and in collaboration with artists. Ravi Chary is the son of the late Pt. Prabhakar Chari, a noted tabla player, academician & musicologist of Goa. His father was undoubtedly his first guru who encouraged him to learn the tabla and harmonium as proficiently as the sitar. His foray into learning the nuances of the sitar began with the Prof. Abdul Karim Khan in Goa, following which he came to Mumbai to learn from Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan. He continues his journey with the Sitar under the tutelage of Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. Ravi has had the privilege of performing with some of the best Indian musicians - Ustad Allarakha Khan, Gaan Saraswati Kishori Amonkar, Vidwan Vikku Vinayakram, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pt. Suresh Talwalkar, Ustad Sultan Khan, Louiz Banks, Ranjit Barot, Sivamani to name a few. Ravi has performed alongside artists with different musical styles globally. These include the virtuoso percussionist - Trilok Gurtu and established foreign artists like Salif Keita, Kai Eckhardt, Angélique Kidjo, Ben Watkins, Pacco Sairre, Kudsi Eulgner & Robert Miles. His musical synergies have translated well in various mediums - live performances, music albums, festivals, films and television. Amit Kavthekar was groomed in the art of playing tabla by the legendary Ustad Allarakha. He has also been fortunate enough to be taught tabla intricacies by Ustad Zakir Hussain. Amit has played with many eminent Indian Classical Musicians such as Ustad Zakir Hussain, Sivamani, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, Pt. Buddhadev Dasgupta, Pt. Kushal Das, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, Pt. Jasraj and many others.
