The Festival seems to have added another venue, the Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum, which features a 2500 seat auditorium.

My favorite Kenny Dorham solo is on El Matador, where almost the entire solo is variations on the same short phrase, played with an amazing range of variation and feeling. Sort of sums up jazz for me.

My last Gary Thomas sighting was in 2007, when I went to see a group led by guitarist Paul Bollenback at a concert at the University of Texas at Dallas; he had Gary Thomas on tenor saxophone in the group.

Going to see him at the Lensic Theater in November? I thought about it, but probably won't travel for it since he is at the Big Ears Festival next year, which I'm planning on attending.
