  1. I've seen all those people- in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Texas, as well as right here in Florida. Some things are universal. I expect some even inhabit this board! Good thing we don't have video!
  2. New batch of RVGs out today!
  3. I'm considering changing my name to "Hammerhead", you know, like "Sting". Thanks guys and gals!
  4. Tell me about it.......
  5. I have to say that (for a chain restaurant) Famous Dave's is not too bad.
  6. A great tune from one of my favorite Blue Notes, Roll Call.
  7. Happy Birthday JC! It's an honor to share a birthday with you and Bix!
  8. Hold on, it's not really my birthday!!!.......oh, wait.......yeah it is. Time to say goodbye to the 40s. Damn. Thanks for all the good thoughts (and artwork and trombone babes), everyone! I really appreciate and cherish all my wonderful friends here. Cheers! I'm going out tonight for some margaritas and mexican food with a couple friends. So I'll make sure to post in a drunken vitriolic manner when I return! Thought I'd acknowledge my fellow Iowan and birthday boy on my avatar. And Al: STFU!
  9. I love the PDQ Bach piece for "Horn and Hardart". My family used to drive to Howard Johnson's to enjoy the fried clams and ice cream (pre-Baskin Robbins). Also have memories of going to the local Dairy Queen on hot summer nights (for Mr. Mistys and Peanut Buster Parfaits). There was also a competing "generic" place called "Dairy Creme" a few blocks away. Not as good, but much cheaper. Also, I remember a place at the local college's student union my friends and I used to stop at after school for corn dogs. Now that I'm thinking about it, there was also a "Corner Sundry" in my hometown where you could get various things like sodas and malts (it was also my main source for comic books!). I remember getting a "Green River" soda which was like a major sugar fix. Also, the local cafe where you could get old-fashioned malts, burgers and fries. Man, once I start looking through the memories there's a ton of stuff to remember!
  10. What FFA said. AFAIC, this album contains the definitive version of "Autumn Leaves." Yup! Their version is just simply staggering! Love that bassline that Sam and Hank play.
  11. The Bowery Boys Bill the Butcher June Cleaver
  12. One of my "top ten" Blue Notes and my first RVG purchase.
  13. It's about time we fired this thread back up. I've got spring break this week, so I'm going to do some grilling. No snow here! I really like when asparagus starts to be in season and much cheaper. Love to grill it! Also cooking up some chicken and corn. My apologies to my friends up north (although when I lived in Chicago I grilled year 'round).
  14. My routine when school is in session is to get up at 7AM and to be in bed by midnight (although I'm not always successful at the latter ). In the summer and during holidays I start naturally drifting towards later hours. This next week is spring break so I'll probably be up until 2AM or so and sleep until 9AM. That's about as late as I can sleep no matter when I go to bed. I have some (music) writing projects that are coming due, and I like to write late at night. I think when I was younger it was more desirable to keep the traditional "jazz" hours (up until 3 or 4AM), not so much anymore. I've never been much of a morning person, although I am almost always more productive when I do get up earlier- but not until I've made that first round of good & strong french-press coffee, of course! Wow, Lon! An eighteen-year-old cat! How nice to have an old friend around!
  15. Vida Blue Whitey Ford Red Faber
  16. ......et quand nous sommes allés d'ici, nos amis boiront de toute le biere!
  17. Me neither, as long as the turnaround is played with the correct changes. F#-7(b5)/ B7alt./E7 alt./A7 alt./(back to C-)
  18. F# Not Gb?
  19. "......and whiskers on kittens......."
  20. That one's worth a picture. IIRC, Billy was kind of the "John Oates" of the group.
  21. Good thing Tatum didn't play "Dinah".
  22. a little better.....25% off through March 9th
  23. I'd say that's an opinion I don't share. I'd take a hefeweizen or an english ale any day of the week over a malt liquor. Much more art has gone into the creation of real beers than any mass produced malt liquor (or mass produced american "beer" too). But then again, maybe I'm one of the dorks you're talking about. That's OK, Agg. I'm a double dork- I also was in my high school jazz band. Cheers!
