  1. It's funny, I was in the store today (using the 40% off coupon ) and while checking out I asked if Borders was phasing out CDs. I got a definite programmed response, like "Why, not at all! Move along, please......nothing to see here....."
  2. Wasn't that JoeHen's last recording?
  3. Amen!
  4. And that's a bad thing because.....?
  5. I for one am enjoying these, Jim. I remember the 70s all too well (I think).
  6. Better open a window tonight.
  7. ...or DID he?

    Jan Garbarek

Yesterday a local station was playing some cuts off of the Jarrett VV live recording "Nude Ants". I hadn't listened to that one in awhile, and I must say there was some great playing on it (Jarrett, Garbarek, Christenson & Danielson IIRC).
  9. Not so much, eh?
  10. Several people had mentioned this on the Borders coupon thread and I thought I'd move the discussion to this thread. There seems to be a fairly drastic phasing-out of CDs that has begun at Borders- last weeks my local store (and others, apparently) changed the entire CD display area around, and the result is a much smaller selection overall, definitely in the jazz area. They used to have the box sets in a locked glass case, but now they're just out in the open as if their value is much less, which I expect is the case. Anyone else noticing this at their local Borders? I do most of my CD buying online and go into Borders mostly when there is a sale or coupon, but Borders was one of the last brick-and-mortar places left to browse CDs. It seems to be going the way of the Best Buy chain which used to have an excellent CD selection. All these big CD sales lately have been great, but I also have a sense of dread about the whole thing, like we're seeing the demise of the format altogether. We've gone from LP-size liner notes/art to CD-size liner notes/art to NO liner notes/art (downloading). I don't know, it just makes me a little sad.
  11. I noticed last week in my Borders store that they had just done a big reorgnization of the CD area and that the jazz section now takes up about half the space it used to. Looks like the beginning of the end.
  12. So, Beef? Report, please. Did you have fun? Good music? Good food? Good hang in Austin? Tell us all, please!
  13. Fish 'n chimps, an olde favourite.
  14. It's a summery day here. Boodles & tonic w/lime.
  15. Baked potato, corn on the cob and perhaps the most perfectly grilled New York strip I've ever attempted. Medium rare, absolute perfection, if I may say so myself.
  16. Excellent idea! Oh, wait....you were talking to Conrad.
  17. Thanks, Dan. Damn, I was going to use the $33 price tag of a "Slice of the Top" CD as my excuse for buying the Mobley Mosaic box. Then I realized the box is just the '50s sessions and SOTT is from the '60s. This is gonna cost me... What? You haven't gotten the Mobley box yet? WTF??
  18. Looks like it's not quite over yet.....the birthday OR the bad weather! Hunker down!
