Several people had mentioned this on the Borders coupon thread and I thought I'd move the discussion to this thread.
There seems to be a fairly drastic phasing-out of CDs that has begun at Borders- last weeks my local store (and others, apparently) changed the entire CD display area around, and the result is a much smaller selection overall, definitely in the jazz area. They used to have the box sets in a locked glass case, but now they're just out in the open as if their value is much less, which I expect is the case. Anyone else noticing this at their local Borders?
I do most of my CD buying online and go into Borders mostly when there is a sale or coupon, but Borders was one of the last brick-and-mortar places left to browse CDs. It seems to be going the way of the Best Buy chain which used to have an excellent CD selection.
All these big CD sales lately have been great, but I also have a sense of dread about the whole thing, like we're seeing the demise of the format altogether. We've gone from LP-size liner notes/art to CD-size liner notes/art to NO liner notes/art (downloading).
I don't know, it just makes me a little sad.
