  1. Damn, Noj. Even Mr. Joshua looks stunned....
  2. Yes, I've been following this and was very happy to see Numero Uno win. Sweet looking dog!
  3. Da Bastids have it for $35.99.
  4. Though did you notice how from the very start they were out of sync with the accompaniment? Usually the musicians compensate and follow the singers but for some reason they didn't budge for a loooooong time. Kid Rock trying to actually sing specific pitches was just plain sad. And then when they were trying to announce the winners Keely was really confused. Almost as much as Tony Bennett.....(Tony , it's time to stay home and paint. You've had a good run, but....)
  5. Yep, cornet and flugel horn are quite different instruments. Same bore size though, I believe. The 'plumbing' is tubed around in the cornet. Much of the difference is a result of whether the instrument is cylindrical (straight bore) or conical (increasing bore). The trumpet is mostly a cylindrical instrument, the flugelhorn is mostly conical and the cornet falls in between. The trombone? Obviously a comical instrument.
  6. Not one of the "heavy hitters" perhaps, but I've heard some pieces by Sir Arthur Bliss that I've enjoyed.
  7. Yes, but did Herbie cover the point spread?
  8. Not surprising. On CNN this morning the anchor commented "I didn't know Herbie Hancock was even still in the music business". Most of the press I've seen online mentions Winehouse profusely with Herbie barely a by-line. Although I would expect many of those who now go and buy Herbie's recording based solely upon his winning the award will not like it. Too mellow and understated (read "boring") for the pop crowd (as well as many of the jazz fans here!).

    Bummer. Those motherf*ckers.
  10. I get the message, but I'm not entirely sure there was any actual "destruction" there.....
  11. 40% off single CDs, up to three A good one, but only for a couple days......
  12. I know 2007 was a tough year for you, but here's hoping this next year is a happy and healthy one for you (with many more to follow)!! Great to have you around! Cheers, Bruce!
  13. Record of the year: Herbie Hancock! Nice to see a jazz recording get some recognition! CONGRATS HERBIE!!

I'm contemplating getting one of these. I'm also looking at the H4- is there enough difference to pay the extra $$? The H4 is a four-track, I believe. Advice?
  15. Ling Ling?
  16. Was it possibly Makoto Ozone?
  17. sorry mate i disagree - i think she's got talent. skinny legs tho. Well, she won a Grammy so there are many who agree with you!
  18. Tony Bennett is shrinking.
  19. Amy Winehouse is now on. I'm sorry, I just don't get what the big deal is with her.
  20. The guys get shirts.
  21. That was the first film that came to my mind. Loved it. He was always an interesting & engaging personality, even in some of the less-than-great films he was in. RIP. (BTW, you can currently get Seven Ups for cheap over at Amazon)
  22. Just got home, turned it on to see Keely Smith and Kid Rock* performing "That Old Black Magic". It was awful, I threw up in my mouth a little. I felt sorry for Keely Smith, it was truly embarrassing. *note to Kid Rock: STFU!!!
  23. Happy 50th, and many more to come! (I'm not far behind you!) Glad to have you here!
  24. You know, for whatever reason Ornette still feels so fresh and rebellious and electric to me. Very timeless music. I envy those who get to hear it for the first time. Some of my favorite music took me a while to "get"- Monk, Mingus and Ornette come to mind (also a lot of early jazz I initially overlooked). It's that music where you keep discovering deeper layers. Duke was that way for me, and also some Miles I didn't like at first.
