  2. This is certainly my impression. You try to have a discussion with someone about the underwhelming selection of streaming content on Netflix, and they get all defensive -- but look at the huge number of TV shows and 80s movies you can watch. Weird. Since most people are mostly interested in recent films and whether they can stream them, it seems perfectly legit to point out that Netflix isn't doing that well in this area, and my impression is that they will probably be even worse after their current contracts expire. Since I'm an Amazon Prime member I have access to their streaming service but unfortunately it's not compatible with my PS3 the way Netflix and Hulu+ are (and I really don't want to buy one of those Roku boxes). Having both Netflix and Hulu+ seems to be more than a little redundant and I might let one of them go- I'm waiting to see if Netflix gets their act together, but I'm not holding my breath. The movie selection on Hulu+ is REALLY odd- seems like a bunch of straight-to-video titles that I've never heard of. So far I'm less than impressed with both services- IMO they are not nearly has happening as people let on.
  3. No it don't! You should just get a big Play button -- hit that puppy and it plays! The little "Get Widget" blurb is only an ad for bloggers who want the same widget on their own blog... Yes, pushing the play button worked, no extra widget required (though it did take a moment to respond). Sounds good- great to hear Bruce again!
  4. I recently switched to the streaming version of Netflix and have to say it's pretty underwhelming. Most recent films are available on DVD only.
  5. I like the writing and players on this recording, but unfortunately I'm not a fan of the vocalist- too many pitch problems IMO (and some awkward phrasing as she tries to fit into the arrangements). Overall though I enjoy this record and would recommend it.
  6. Happy Birthday, Glenn! Corn dogs and tater tots tonight?
  7. 56 years is too short a life, but what a lot he accomplished in that time. RIP.
  8. I realize many here don't do MP3s, but there are many Criss Cross titles available on eMusic, and often at a very cheap price. I'm also a Criss Cross fan- so many great recordings, often by players who often aren't widely known. Some other artists to check out are Scott Wendholt, Tim Ries, Walter Smith III, Brian Lynch, John Swana, Alex Sipiagin, David Binney, Adam Rogers, Grant Stewart, Ralph Peterson, Gary Smulyan and an early Kenny Garrett recording w/Woody Shaw! Sorry, that's a long list but a bunch of interesting players and compositions.
  9. I remember playing a Buddy Rich chart in high school called Three Day Sucker- the Rich recording featured Marcus on soprano.
  10. Just got my shipping notice, it'll be here on Friday.
  11. I'm pretty certain that when Miles puts his finger to his ear, it is a cue to the soundman that he is not hearing himself as much as he would like and to turn up the monitors or perhaps even the house speakers. As a trumpet player, I am keenly aware, when watching live videos, of trumpet players trying to get their monitors turned up (they all do it, some more subtle then others). Yes, I see horn players do this all the time (I do it myself)and that was my first thought, that it was a message to the soundman, but after watching the timing of when he did it (and the way he would fix his "Miles glare" on band members when he did it) I started to think that it was intended as musical direction for the band members.
  12. I recently picked this one up.
  13. Is that Shelley Long?
