  1. Shipped...it'll be at my door tomorrow!
  2. No "apparently" about the Chiefs. Andrew Luck could have played for Carolina this year, now he will be with the Chiefs next season. Apparently the mantra of the KC fans this year is "Suck for Luck"!
  3. Some good new things popping up on on eMusic (like the Fresh Sound sides), but also some very odd compilations. This one caught my eye. I didn't realize how much alike Ray Brown and Ron Carter look!
  4. Total guess- Paul Weston?
  5. I've really enjoyed the Prime service, well worth the annual fee IMO, but then I do order a lot (of various stuff besides music) from Amazon. The streaming video is nice too.
  6. Actually it will be out next Tuesday, Sept. 20th. If you pre-ordered from Amazon it should be at your door that day. But Jazz Thrash seems to live in Spain.......... Ah.....I didn't notice that. OK, nevermind. FFA gets an F in Reading Comprehension today.
  7. I'm on Amazon Prime, free shipping and Tuesday delivery date....yes, it might be later if you aren't in Prime. I guess my main point was that the official release date is the 20th, not the 26th, at least according to what I see on Amazon.

  9. It's weird, it seems to be suddenly fussy with Firefox. I used Safari and got in fine. Never had this problem before.....
  10. More $$ to spend on tunes!!
  11. So after doing some investigating looks like I can do the following: Get rid of my cable and HD box and switch to a basic cable & internet plan. Cable bill goes from $130 to $70. It's actually cheaper to keep the basic cable than to get rid of it entirely. There are cheaper internet options, but the speed suffers and I'm not interested in that. I've got Netflix and Hulu+ to try out, we'll see how they look. I will miss some of my cable shows, but most of them I can watch online. Get rid of smart phone & internet charge. I can reactivate an older phone I still have and change my plan without any penalties. When my "contract" expires next July I can then get a new non-smart phone if I want. Cell bill goes from $100 to $60. So about $100 less on those two bills. I can live with that.
  12. Is anyone else having trouble getting onto the eMusic site? I haven't been able to get on since yesterday.
  13. Dick Oatts is a tremendous altoist! Dick Oatts is a monster. He has some great recordings out on Steeplechase, some with Rich Perry (under Harold Danko's name) and a great one w/Jerry Bergonzi called Saxology that evokes some Tristano nostalgia. Highly recommended!
  14. just curious, Peter, but do you think it's more difficult, for trumpet players especially, to play in Vail due to the altitude? As a brass player I will throw in my two cents and say YES. I used to play at the Aspen festival each summer for a few years, and it always took a little time to adjust to the altitude (and attitude ). You take in the usual deep breath and feel like you aren't getting ANY air. Eventually you get used to it, and the bonus is when you go back to lower altitudes you suddenly have TONS of air! I still play a lot in Colorado (Denver area, not quite a high altitude) and the same problem exists to a lesser degree. When I was on the road w/Woody Herman we played a gig in Aspen (around '87) and Woody got very sick from the altitude (he was not in good health at that point).
  15. He's playing great. I love his Strayhorn record and also the new Clayton Bros. band record "The New Song & Dance". I'd recommend going to hear him. If you get a chance to talk to him, he's a great guy.
  16. The Mills Brothers do some pretty amazing instrument imitations which include some scatting. The stuff from around the 30s is my favorite.
  17. I thought it was pretty much over (Dallas with a big lead) and when I checked back in it was all tied up! Not a good day for Romo. Not good at all.
  18. My cable bill (internet & cable, I got rid of my phone land line some time ago) is about $120. My cell bill is about $100. Dropping the internet access for my phone would cut about $30 from the bill. The first thing I'm going to do is call Comcast & Verizon and tell them about possibly bailing and see what their reaction is. Some folks have said they will lower their rates some folks have said they act like "tough shit, we don't care".
  19. I'm not sure if there's another thread about this, so sorry if there's redundancy. I'm looking at what I pay to Comcast and Verizon each month and it's ridiculous. I'm thinking about: 1) getting rid of my smartphone and going back to a cheaper and more basic phone. I find I don't really need most of the smartphone features. I'm around computers enough I don't need to get online via my phone. I could cut my phone bill way back if I ditch the internet. Talk, text and video- that's all I really need from my phone. I'm also tired of being so fixated on my phone and want to de-tech a bit. 2) ditching cable TV and just using HuluPlus, Netflix & Amazon streaming services via my PS3. I do want to have a solid wifi connection at home, I'll probably keep that. Comcast's internet connection is very good, I've had no problems with that. Are there wifi options that are reasonably reliable? So, what are y'all doing?
  20. yes, i've brought up that problem in the past!! Yes, this thread requires the use of the honor system.
  21. Wendy Carlos?
