  6. You did good! You might have saved a few bucks by looking around, but I think you did just fine to get this great set in the $300 range. I'm sure you'll enjoy the music!
  7. Wow. What great stuff! I'm suffering from Venus envy.
  8. There were also a couple recordings w/Gil Evans and his arrangements which I'm pretty sure are OOP. They were billed as Gil Evans/Laurent Cugny Big Band Lumiere and the titles were Rhythm-A-Ning and Golden Hair, both on Emarcy circa 1987. Pretty good playing and recordings, IIRC. I need to check 'em out again.
  9. Kelly's predated my arrival in Chicago. The London House was at Michigan and Wacker - last I knew it was a Burger King but that may have changed. Last act I saw there was Getz. The Nickel was on Wells St, across from the Dr Scholl's factory. IIRC it became a dog grooming place. Last music I heard there (fall of '68) was Miles with Wayne, Chick, Holland and Tony. Other folks I heard there included Coltrane (3? times), Wes, Jimmy Smith, Horace and Monk. Maybe more will come to me later. I'm sure Larry Kart can correct some of my info and give the word on Kelly's. ← Thanks for the info, Chuck. I think I remember hearing that Mr. Kelly's was in the vicinity of Rush street. Wow, that Miles gig would have been fun to see and hear...as well as the others. Was the PN a decent club? Big/small? Nice/hole?

  14. The problem with many of these movies is what I refer to as "premise overload". They're barely funny as a 5 minute SNL sketch but can't sustain interest over the course of two hours. What was the last comedy anyone saw that was consistently funny and kept your interest for the duration? It seems like most have one or two funny bits (which are frequently spoiled by the previews) and not much else. The only recent one that comes to mind for me is "Sideways" and even that was a little hit-and-miss IMHO. I sure loved Peter Sellers. The Pink Panther films, The Party, Being There (not so much a comedy, but very funny in spots) sure stand out in my memory as well-made, consistently funny and engaging films. I guess I'm a bit of a Blake Edwards fan- when he was good, he was very, very good (and unfortunately the opposite is true). Hal Ashby directed Being There IIRC.
  15. Passport, wow! Klaus Dolginger, right? I haven't thought about them for ages. I was into them. I'll have to dig out my LPs and see how the music has aged.
  16. Was it worth it? What was the poison of choice? :rsmile:
  17. One thing I've noticed from watching the DVDs is how much they've cut from the syndicated versions. A few seconds here and there really does make a difference. Also the DVD sound and picture are much better- one of the cable channels here that runs the show has really messed with the sound, compressed it or something. Looking forward to procuring Season 4, the peak of the series.

  23. That's not the hybrid, FFA--although a few reviews on Amazon say there's not a lot of difference in the CD layers between the two. I can't compare; but here's a link to the hybrid. ← Yes, I finally figured that out. <<<(me all day today) Thanks for the link Peter. That's the one I wanna get.
  24. Even cheaper HERE !! I'm ordering one!
