  1. I don't know, wes.......they usually have cold Old Milwaukee at those reunions........ You must have gone to some high-class high school, man... Oh yeah, it was redneck city. I think they'd consider Rolling Rock an import. Have you ever been to a reunion? Are there people drinking Guinness and single malts at these things? Not in the midwest. Not that Old Mill is for those types only, wes........... :rsmile:

  9. I can't confirm if this is true, but I have no reason to believe it's not. When I was living in Austin (late 80s) I had the opportunity to hang and play with the great bassist Gene Ramey who claimed to have played on the very session where Papa Jo tossed the cymbal. At that time (late 80s), Mr. Ramey had been living in "retirement" in Austin, but was coerced to come out and play by some local musicians. What a treasure of stories and knowledge he was! Perhaps one of our resident historical experts could confirm or debunk this story. Mr. Ramey was not one given to fabricating tales, so I'm inclined to believe him until proven otherwise.
  10. I forgot about this one. It's very nice tune, melodic with interesting changes. George Cables wrote some good tunes-another one is "Think On Me" which was on Woody Shaw's Blackstone Legacy and also Woody Herman's Giant Steps. Both of these tunes should be heard more often IMHO.

  12. I received an email yesterday from them saying that Same Mother is no longer available. I wonder if your receiving a promo copy of it had anything to do with this. Maybe all of their stock was promos, so they shipped them back to Blue Note. Same Mother was available for only a couple of weeks, so I can't believe that they sold out that quickly. I see that my recent BMG order has shipped complete, and I did order Same Mother.

  14. ...and Gary Burton. This is a very good side- highly recommended! And the Woody Shaw!! Hope they include a buttload of extra stuff with that one!!
  15. Whether or not you liked his music, you have to admit Stan Kenton was pretty cool and charismatic in front of an audience. Woody Herman too. Monday (May 16th) is Woody's birthday, BTW.
