  1. Saw him several times, including two magic evenings with Gil Evans, one of them at the Village Vanguard when Adams (and others) ignited the orchestra to fiery proceedings! What a great player he was!
  2. FFA beat me to the 'Gil Evans & 10' album. A must have one! Also recommended:
  3. Happy Birthday
  4. George Handy 'By George' ("X", mono) could not find on the net a photo of the cover of this LP that features Handy's compositions played by the likes if Dick Sherman, Frank Rehak, Dave Schildkraut, Tony Aless...
  5. That was one of the first cover displayed on this thread (page 2!) Don't recall this one being already shown:
  6. Paris Jazz Corner and its owner Arnaud Boubet are featured on Le Nouvel Observateur's website this week (all in french): NouvelObs http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xsqatm_le-top-3-de-la-musique-jazz-qu-il-vous-faut_news?search_algo=1
  7. The ECM catalogue has full of these scenic views! A sample:
  8. This is sad news! An interesting musician who had an interesting life. He plays on several of favorite Zoot Sims sessions (the Dawn, Argo and ABC albums, the 'Live at Half Note' LP with Cohn and Woods). He also was the bass player on Bobby Jaspar's NY date for French Columbia (with Tommy Flanagan and Elvin Jones).
  9. Rewatched Rudisha winning the 800-meter run and tend to agree with Steve Cram's opinion Cram in The Telegraph
  10. Louis Bellson 'At the Flamingo' (Verve, mono, trumpet label) Beautiful studio session that does not seem to have been reissued on CD. Really a Harry Edison quartet date (with Don Abney and Truck Parham). An excellent Bellson stays in the background most of the time...
  11. Looks like you had a great time! Happy Birthday
  12. Missed the men's basketball France-Spain live but caught Batum's punch to Navarro in news replays. A disgraceful gesture. Understand Batum later apologised. Seems that a number of French participants have entered the whining competition and aiming for medals there with too many of them complaining about adverse players who defeated them 'for the wrong reasons'.
  13. Gigi Gryce 'Saying Somethin'!' (NewJazz)
  14. Could not make up my mind on whether I would seek that new set since I already have most of the material but the new additions turns this into a must-buy item! Joining the queue...
  15. Bolt is Nr. 1 more than ever after his victory in the 200-meter run. But yesterday's other hero was Kenya's David Rudisha, the winner of the 800-meter in world record time!
  16. Chu Berry Columbia and Victor box, CDs 6 and 7 a favorite Mosaic box...
