  1. Currently watching a three-hour program from last November's D'Jazz festival in Nevers, central France, now being broadcast on HD-TV on the 'Mezzo Live' channel. First up was Marc Ribot with Henry Grimes and Chad Taylor currently being shown is SexMob with Steven Bernstein on trumpet, Briggan Krauss, altosax, Tony Scherr, bass, and Kenny Wollesen, drums. Third will be Radiation 10 with Han Bennink on drums! Another great program from Mezzo TV!
  2. Louis Bellson 'Let's Call It Swing' (Verve, mono, dg, trumpet label) Nice arrangements by Ernie Wilkins and Don Redman!
  3. Good thing I stayed out of that BTF 97! I did note the idea behind it was an European basis. The only player I identified was Mangelsdorff but could not trace the recording! Another very interesting BFT from Ubu!
  4. Bobby Hutcherson 'Cirrus' (BN, blue label)
  5. Same here. I'm happy with that 1991 BN reissue and what Malcolm Addey did then with the audio.
  6. Dexter Gordon 'The Studio Trio and Quartet Studio Recordings' (SteepleChase)
  7. Zoot Sims 'Goes to Jazzville' (Dawn, mono)
  8. Jim Harrod updated the PJ/WP labelography... Pacific Jazz/World Pacific Great work
  9. The Prestige reissues of MPS LPs sound quite nice and can usually be had for $10 or so on ebay. My BASF copy looks like this... ...and plays very nicely! Now spinning: Artie Shaw 'The Jazz Years' 'Sounds of Swing)
  10. Summer weather was very nice last month! Autumn weather is a drag this month!
  11. Bill Watrous & Carl Fontana (Atlas)
  12. Just for fun, a sample of Krzystof Komeda's music for Jerzy Skolimowski's 'Le Départ' with Don Cherry and Gato Barbieri (and several other players). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-3jZW7qsBk
  13. Don Friedman 'A Day in the City' (Riverside, stereo)
  14. Nguyen Le has quite a lot of albums out under his name! Remember this thread is about 'players who only lead one or two sessions'.
  15. Emphasis should be put on Gato Barbieri who was Don Cherry's main and most constant partner during the '60s. I was lucky to be able to listen to that Complete Communion group on several occasions, also Don with Sonny Rollins. Wish I had had a chance to hear the Cherry-Ayler group live
  16. Several fine sessions on that album (I have the Japanese Decca/MCA release)! Bennie Green rules! (or rather: he should have ruled!)
