  1. Nice links, Jazzjet! I did visit those stores but prefered shopping at Dobell's or Collet back then. Much more interesting jazz selections there (before Mole Jazz opened)!
  2. Manfred Mann!
  3. The Jaguar, for sure... the singer, I would not be sure
  4. Bud Shank 'At Jazz Alley' (Contemporary)
  5. The last surviving founding member of the Four Freshmen died Saturday in Simi Valley, Calif. Obituary in The Los Angeles Times today.
  6. Count Basie Verve Fifties box, discs 3 and 4
  7. Milt Jackson & Ray Charles 'Soul Brothers' (Atlantic, mono, black label)
  8. (Almost the) same here (I did not see the album around my places). It has been reissued on CD. Great lineup: Ernie Royal, Jimmy Nottingham, Joe Newman, Sonny Cohn (tp) Frank Rehak, Benny Powell, Henry Coker, Al Grey (tb) Marshal Royal (as) Frank Wess (as,fl) Frank Foster, Billy Mitchell (ts) Seldon Powell (ts,fl) Charlie Fowlkes (bar) Hank Jones (p) Freddie Green (g) Eddie Jones (b) Sonny Payne (d). Ellis Larkins and Kenny Burrell also show up!
  9. The Tenors Head-On album also came out shortly after its initial release on PacificJazz after Liberty acquired the label: Same cover, different labels!
  10. McGhee is still active indeed and appears with François Tusques regularly! Now listening to: Gill Fuller & the Monterey Jazz Festival Orchestra 'Featuring Dizzy Gillespie' (PacificJazz, stereo)
  11. Easy... Martin Landau, a favorite actor ever since 'North by Northwest'!
  12. Great to have that Flamingo! Thanks for bringing this to our attention (and ears). Firefoxed it too!
  13. A needledrop job, I'm sure. Was not aware that this album had been reissued that way. The whole Byg Actuel story is a total mess! The recordings produced great music that never got adequate releases. And since the original tapes have disappeared we have to contend with whatever came out! Now spinning: Paul Gonsalves 'Gettin' Together' (Jazzland/Carrère France)
  14. Roy DuNann will be among the speakers at the forthcoming 'Celebrating the West Coast Sound' festival October 20-23 at the Los Angeles Jazz Institute. Modern Sounds DuNann will appear on Sunday October 23: ------------------------ 10:15AM-11:15AM Meridian Room PRESENTATION 7 $10 A Tribute to Roy DuNann Ken Poston with legendary sound engineer Roy DuNann discussing his work for Contemporary Records in the 1950’s ------------------------ A very rare opportunity!
  15. You mean Bily Harper... that's him on tenor!
  16. Mirna Loy ???
