  1. His music was always playing on the radio when I started getting interested in jazz in the early '50s. Been a fan ever since. Thanks for all the good music and the high spirit, Sir George!

  3. Roland Kirk 'Rahsaan' Complete Mercury box, discs 3 and 4
  4. A fine album. But I recommend you go straight to the CD release which includes four more tracks that were not on the vinyl release!

    Ben Webster

What was wrong with the original title? Any poblem with Gentle Ben?
  6. Piano Playhouse (VSOP) Album recorded in 1957 for Mode but not released until VSOP added this to its catalogue. The piano players are Carl Perkins, Jimmy Rowles, Paul Smith, Gerald Wiggins and Lou Levy.
  7. Happy Happy  Birthday
  8. The Steeplechase album 'Tete a Tete' should also be added to the list of highly recommended albums Listened to this over the weekend and was floored by the quality of the playing!
  9. Jimmy Lyons 'Push Pull' (Hat Hut), LPs 1 and 2 (LP3 next)
  10. Woody Allen remains an 'enfant chéri' of the French moviegoing crowd. His soon to be released opus 'Midnight in Paris' was filmed in the French capital. The Soon-Yi story did little to alter Allen's public adulation here. Some of his recent films have left me a bit disappointed but I really enjoyed 'Match Point'.
  11. Saw that Rooney goal yesterday! Stunning

Looks like it still remains reissued!
  13. $53,969 for a portrait of Chet Baker. By Richard Avedon! Christie's auction The description does not mention he was a trumpet player!
  14. Blue Mitchell 'Blue's Moods (Riverside, Victor Japan)
  15. The item from bebop spoken here says it's Ferrara who introduced Warne Marsh to Lennie Tristano. No trace of a recording of Ferrara and Marsh together
  16. I'ld lose a small fortune But the music on that vinyl is no jam session, except in the mind of the manufacturer. The LP has tracks from various sessions by Cozy Cole (with Coleman Hawkins), Eddie Davis, Slam Stewart (with Red Norvo) and several sides from the notorious 1945 Clyde Hart session on Continental (with Parker, Gillespie and Rubberlegs Williams!).
  17. My copy arrived today Listening to the music now. It was worth the wait...
  18. The bebop spoke here blog has an item indicating trumpet player Don Ferrara died on January 18. He was 82. Don Ferrara Ferrara recorded with Woody Herman, Lester Young, Gerry Mulligan, Lee Konitz among others. Sadly he never recorded under his name.
  19. Stan Kenton 'The Definitive Kenton' (Artistry), LP1 A twofer that included live concerts and broadcasts (including the ones with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie) from the 1953-1955 era.
