  1. That's Barney Wilen on the Jimmy Gourley videos. Always nice to rewatch these videos... Gourley and Wilen's video dates around the release of their 1987 'Double Action' CD on Elabeth (excellent album!)
  2. Barney Kessel - Herb Ellis 'Poor Butterfly' (Concord)
  3. chewy, if a player was born in Texas (or in Connecticut...) instead of the West Coast, does that make him a less interesting player?!?
  4. She was a very good match to Marilyn Monroe in 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' and to Clark Gable in 'The Tall Men' and 'The King and Four Queens', both directed by Raoul Walsh. Walsh also directed her in 'The Revolt of Mamie Stover'. She was quite convincing in those films.
  5. Roy Eldridge Verve box, disc 4
  6. Thanks Daniel! I did not realize the Mulligan Amsterdam date was the Concertgebouw one. But I did not know about the JJ Johnson Councertgebouw album. More money to spend
  7. This had been taken care of on Rooster Ties' architecture thread a long time ago. All I need to know now is where the place that is on the cover of Dexter Gordon's 'One Flight Up' is (or was!).
  8. Elliot Lawrence 'Big Band Sound' (Fantasy, mono, red wax) Elliot Lawrence knew how to pick is sidemen. Bernie Glow, Eddie Bert, Gene Quill, Al Cohn are among those present on this one.
  9. From The New York Times Brooklyn store to close.
  10. There is one large concert hall (le studio 102) and several other concert and rehearsal studios inside La Maison de la Radio. The Maison de la Radio is indeed on the cover of Larry Young's 'Into Something'. The building was also known as Maison de l'ORTF back then.
  11. The only album under his name I have that Jazzland LP somewhere. A good one with Ray Charles trumpet player John Hunt and a solid rhythm section.
  12. Will be looking forward to listen to these!
  13. Article in The Wall Street Journal today.
  14. Hank Mobley's presence on that Roach session probably explains the high price! My copy looks just as good
  15. Eric Dolphy 'Other Aspects' (BN/EMI)

    Marion Brown

Very moving to revisit Marion Brown back in 1966 just before he moved to Paris! What a beautiful soul he had. I miss him...
  17. I am humbled with this! A big fan of KD, I have that Classics and failed to recognize this track Not a really typical KD contribution. Interesting to find out the identity of the guitar player! Thus was a very interesting Blindfold Test
  18. Coleman Hawkins 'Night Hawk' (Prestige, green label)
  19. Tanya's place? Tanya's Place?!? Qu'est-ce que c'est? Intrigued Parisien would like to know. Just a quip. "Tanya" was a long track on that album. So if she is a Parisian, maybe that is where they took the picture. But maybe not. In fact, quite doubtfully. Ah so... Doubt a Tanya would live in a place like that Anyway might be worth asking Donald Byrd. He composed the tune!
  20. Tanya's place? Tanya's Place?!? Qu'est-ce que c'est? Intrigued Parisien would like to know.
  21. More vinyl (now that I am in good company ) Dexter Gordon 'One Flight Up' (BN, mono, DG)
