  1. Many thanks Paul! It was very good
  2. This should be sad news but I read all kind of positive aspects in this article. Best wishes to one of jazz's elder statesmen! A real gentleman!
  3. FreshSounds has access to the United Artists albums and reissues a sadly neglected catalogue. It's all very legal under EU juridiction. Don't think Randy Weston could do much to prevent the release of this reissue.
  4. Interesting that Freddie Gambrell CD which I purchased last week! Surprised that the liner notes do not mention Gambrell's post-World Pacific career. Federico Cervantes Interesting read...
  5. Chet Baker 'The Complete Barclay Sessions' (Barclay, disc 6) The session with Bobby Jaspar!
  6. George Wein's Dixie-Victors featuring Ruby Braff 'The Magic Horn' (RCA Victor, mono)
  7. There does not seem to be any appearance of this on record albums. But there is this video (from BBC Jazz 625)
  8. KD originals getting very expensive... Quiet Kenny
  9. My copy of Jungle Soul has a different cover from the regular Bad Bossa Novavinyl It has the yellow Bergenfield labels, Van Gelder stamps and a dark/green tainted closeup of Gene Ammons (by Esmond Edwards) on its cover. Liner notes by Del Shields are dated December 1963.
  10. John Coltrane 'Complete 1961 Village Vanguard Recordings' (Impulse), disc 3
  11. Don't think there is a problem. That Lonehill reissue of the Saxes Inc. and Trombone Scene albums is available from Amazon.fr Saxes Inc.
  12. Is your copy mono or stereo? What is interesting about this album is that, while recorded in mono, they made it stereo by placing the mono recording in the center channel and overdubbing percussion and vibes left and right. It's stereo! Have always been fascinated by the Havana Interlude track composed and arranged by Leith Stevens. A very intricate and successful arrangement with beautiful solos by Lennie Niehaus, Shorty Rogers; Jimmy Giuffre on tenor, Milt Bernhart and - last but not least - Bud Shank on bass sax! Shank's bass sax playing throughout that composition is nothing short of magnificient!
  13. Roswell Rudd 'The Jazz Composer's Orchestra plays Numatik Swing Band' (JCOA Records)
  14. The Destry Rides Again session that was kept out of the Select on Randy Weston's request is now being reissued by FreshSound records (along with the other UA Weston album Little Niles Destry Rides Again
  15. The booklet is in french and english. One of the drawback of the box is that it's one CD per session and sometimes the session produced little music. There are about three CDs that run for less than 20 minutes.
  16. The piano is fine, Herbie Nichols is great. The only thing out of tune is the DB review! How many albums by Nichols are available? Don't miss this one!
  17. Here is the full tracks listing from Storyville.
  18. Leith Stevens 'Jazz Themes from Private Hell 36' (Coral reissue from Fresh Sound) with Shorty Rogers, Milt Bernhart, Lennie Niehaus, Bud Shank, Jimmy Giuffre, Claude Williamson, Shelly Manne, etc... the LP also includes Jazz Themes for 'Cops and Robbers' by Johnny Mandel and Bill Holman
  19. Lot of alternate tracks, yes. Short ones mostly. But the 84-page album-sized book that comes with the box is worth the asking price!
  20. Wish I had waited until now to get that box
  21. That box does look interesting... Details from the Jazz Messengers shop: Teddy Wilson Storyville box
  22. Hometown honors Clifford Brown Wish there was a trace of Brownie's 'Carnival in Venice' performance!
  23. Frank Rosolino 'I Play Trombone' (Bethlehem/Sony Japan, mono) with Sonny Clark, Wilfred Middlebrooks and Stan Levey
