  1. The Portugal-Ivory Coast match was not that bad! Lively until the very last minute. Both defenses were tight and left little chances for goals. One more game that remained scoreless! Will see how North Korea cope against Brazil later today. There should be goals during that match!
  2. Karin Krog/Warne Marsh/Red Mitchell 'I Remember You' (Spotlite)

    Fred Anderson

I hate this kind of news Get well very soon, Fred!
  4. Rollins does not play on 'Larue' (side 2, track 1). He did not play either on the KD feature 'But Beautiful' which was kept out of that stereo LP (I have the same black label release). That 'Jazz Contrast' was one of the very last Riverside that was originally released on the white label (that was the first design of Riverside LPs. The black label you have is the stereo version. Mono versions at that time came out on blue labels.
  5. Italy seems to have trouble getting in gear for the World Cup. They had trouble with the Paraguay team which obviously was looking for a draw. Sad to see Buffon leave the field. Hope he will be back for the Squadra's next match!
  6. Coleman Hawkins/Clark Terry 'Back in Bean's Bag' (Columbia, stereo)
  7. If FIFA does not want to ban the use of those damn vuvuzela horns, I hope they manage to restrict their use (for instance only when goals are scored or at the end of the matches)! Part of the pleasure of watching soccer games was enjoying the moments when crowds remained silent and then roared to cheer (or diss) actions. Now the only sounds we hear is the constant drone of those horns
  8. There was also Igort (and Carlos Sampayo) two volumes on Fats Waller (published by Casterman):
  9. A second Galaxy album by Red Garland 'So Long Blues' came out of the sessions. That one carried the producer's name: Ed Michel.
  10. Germany produced the best - and most effective - soccer display up to now! They will go far if they keep on playing at that level!
  11. Was not expecting much from the Algeria-Slovenia match and it did match my low expectations. It was not World Cup worthy! The Algerian team proved once more it was not ready for this competition!
  12. Red Allen 'Plays King Oliver' (Verve, mono) with Herb Flemming, Buster Bailey, Sammy Price, Milt Hinton, etc
  13. Marla go to this site... http://sites.radiofrance.fr/francemusique/em/bleu-nuit/emission.php?e_id=65000052 Click on ré-écouter émission du samedi 12 juin on the column at right and enjoy
  14. Dominique Fillon is current French Premier François Fillon's youngest brother. He even had a writeup in a recent issue of Paris-Match. Heard his piano playing on a recent TV show. From what I heard briefly, I'll save my money!
  15. Can't say I was impressed by the England team and Robert Green's blunder will follow him for the rest of his life. I feel sorry for him!
  16. A very nice concert! And it was good to hear Butch Warren in excellent sound! The same group at the Duc des Lombards the same week!
  17. France does not deserve to be in South Africa. From the way les Bleus prepared and from the way they played their opening match they won't be there long!
  18. Argentina did not miss its World Cup entrance with a 1-0 victory over Nigeria. They should have scored more. The Argentina-South Korea confrontation should be most interesting!
  19. Don Cherry 'Eternal Now' (Sonet) with Bernt Rosengren, Christer Bothén and others
  20. Danny Bank's passing away was reported in a couple of jazz forums but his death remains unmentioned in the general media. A shame! And more shame since Bank who too part in hundreds of sessions never recorded under his own name When one was starting to get interested in jazz in the '50s, he was one of the omni present musician in so many important albums. We are very lucky that Bank was interviewed by Marc Meyers for his remarkable Jazz Wax blog: Danny Bank on Bird Danny Bank on Billie Danny Bank's Bands 1944-1950 Danny Bank on BG
  21. Similar thread.
  22. Another no-scorer game for France! Malouda was kept out of the field (except for the last 15 minutes) after he clashed with coach Raymond Domenech. Hope Domenech will get over it and enter him in the team right from the start of France's next match. And get rid of Sidney Govou who remained useless once more! France is still looking for its right team. Tha should have been taken care of months ago! Uruguay used its usual bag of tricks.
  23. That was a fair game for an opening match and it ended on a fair score. Thought Mexico was the better team. However very much doubt that neither team will go to the final!
  24. Same here. Will be watching many games but not all! Getting ready for kickoff time of the South Africa-Mexico opening match! Hoping it will be exciting! Not so sure about the evening match France-Uruguay I am afraid all my misgivings about the French team may turn out to be accurate! Would be glad to be proven wrong!
