To keep things in perspective, my eyes at the time were on Lionel Hampton whose showmanship made a deep impression on me! Clifford Brown was just one of the boys in the band and did not take solos, as far as I remember!
Babik Reinhardt - Django
Sean Gourley - Jimmy
Claudia Solal - Martial
Philippe Combelle - Alex
Djinji Brown - Marion
Ted Nash - Dick
Andy Kirk Jr - Andy
Azzedin 'Niles' Weston - Randy
Two that come to mind right away:
- Joe Venuti and Zoot Sims (also Joe and Zoot, More)
- The Ruby Braff/George Barnes Quartet Live at the New School
but there are plenty more (Dave McKenna, Earl Hines, etc...)
Gratlabel!
$20 would be the top prize for a CD!
With the number of secondhand CDs easily available now, I usually wait for the bargain version!
A CD is only a CD -_-
Vinyl is a whole different world that can be much more expensive! At least it used to be until I put a stop to the indulgence!
The session may have had 'The Visitor' as a working title in its very early stage but it was issued from the start as 'Juba Lee' when it came out on Fontana.
There is a tribute to Marion Brown CD due out next month on the High Two label. A pop oriented one. Might be interesting to listen to...
Marion is living in Florida where he has been for the past several years.
Roland Kirk 'Now Please Don't You Cry, Beautiful Edith' (Verve, France)
1983 reissue. With the classic image of Edith looking at Rahsaan playing in front of part of his stored vinyl albums!
It was recorded on June 14, 1999.
The ESP NYA4 struck me as one of ESP major releases. I was afraid the reunion disc might be a hit and miss affair. It was not.
Great fan of that DIW CD!
Would love to hear another reunion disc by the crew!
Barney Wilen interviewed by Simon Copans from the Club Saint-Germain in November 1959. That's Barney's then manager Marcel Romano at right.

Don't remember seeing that interview. Barney next plays 'No Problem' with Clark Terry, Bud Powell, Pierre Michelot and Kenny Clarke in an often seen video.
Marcy Lutes 'Debut' (Decca, mono)
with arrangements by Ralph Burns, Marion Evans and Gil Evans.
Shorty Baker, Hal McKusick, Al Cohn, Oscar Pettiford and others are in the backing group
It was great meeting you too! Took much too long!
If it's a glass of wine o you, it's going to be from a Chateau Cantemerle 1998
Selected that one to celebrate our son's presence today. He is going to pursue (and hopefully end soon) his studies very near that Chateau outside Bordeaux!
Only drawback to the day is that I won't be able to honor an invitation from Andrew Cyrille to attend his concert tonight at the Sunset club with Oliver Lake and Reggie Workman
