    Bonny Pottle

Never heard the Slim Lamar sides. Sounds good. Bonnie Pottle plays bass with Wingy Manone in the thirties. Have some of these on the Manone Classics CDs. The Manone sides with Pottle are also included in the Wingy Manone (and Louis Prima) Mosaic box!
  2. Thanks for the info. I'll be saving some money on these
  3. Thanks for the info. I'll be saving some money on these
  4. This does not bother me any longer! There has been so much hitherto unreleased (and till now unknown) material that has been made available in recent years that I don't worry about it. I'm just happy to be able to enjoy the enormous amount of new private recordings (from John Coltrane, Cecil Taylor, Miles Davis, etc...) that have surfaced
  5. More interesting material from Fresh Sound in their April New Releases list. There is a 2CD set from a February 1956 Jazz At The Philharmonic concert in Hamburg, Germany, and a Jimmy Giuffre Live at the Five Spot in 1960 (with Jim Hall, Buell Neidlinger, Billy Osborne) CD among many goodies that look tempting!
  6. Richie Kamuca 'Richard Kamuca Quartet 1976' (Jazzz) with Mundell Lowe, Monte Budwig and Nick Cirello
  7. Le Chat Qui Peche is still at the same location and is still called by its original name. No jazz now. It is a restaurant specializing in French Alps specialities. To the best of my knowledge, it's a place to be avoided! I walk past the Chat almost every other day. It only survives in the wonderful memories of numerous special jazz evenings in the cellar downstairs!

    Don Cherry

Never had a chance to listen to that music on disc. Hope it gets a proper release soon! Planning to videotape the film if and when it shows up on one of the film channels here!
  10. J.R. Monterose Duo With Tommy Flanagan '... And A Little Pleasure' (Uptown) More than a little pleasure!
  11. Joyeux Anniversaire Claude Know you'll be enjoying some of the jazz treasures you have gathered!
  12. Oui -_- Been a fan for long. Loved the MGM sides! His Mosaic Live Capitol set has also been a favorite for a long time! I rate his 'Conception' as one of the best bebop composition! His 'Lullaby of Birdland' is a classic!
  13. cant do better. does that have welcome on it? No Welcome 'Crescent' was recorded in 1964. 'Welcome' was recorded in 1965!
  14. 'L'Arrache-Coeur' as it is titled in France is a surprising work of fiction. Imaginative, intriguing, disturbing. No idea how well it was translated into english. One of Vian's most absorbing book!
  15. I have not compared the various issues. When I was searching for hardto find vinyls, those Dave Bailey Epics were to be seen on rare occasions for prices in the $50 to $100 range depending on their condition. That was above my price limits. I was very happy when the vinyls were reissued some ten years ago (by Epic?). They had very good sound as was the case with some other rare Epic vinyl reissues. I have kept these Dave Bailey vinyl reissues and am not looking for more!
  16. Thanks for the info, Pete B. Looks like I don't need to search for that one...
  17. Joe Albany 'This Is For Friends' (Musica) a solo piano date
  18. Van Eps was freelancing around Hollywood during the fifties too!
  19. Couldn't help but notice that you seem to be missing the 10-inch vinyl 'Cool Jazz at Saint-Germain des Prés'. This was a limited edition LP that had tracks by Armand Migiani and Michel de Villers. It came out in the fall of 2005 and disappeared quickly It was the only vinyl release from the Jazz in Paris series!
  20. It really does look like Van Eps. He freelanced in the forties in the Hollywood area!
  21. EMI excluded music from the Beatles from the deal. The AP story today:
  22. Lee Wiley 'Unforgettable' (MCA Japan) The Decca and Coral sides
  23. Fred Kohlman, the musician, was the drummer on that Albert Nicholas-Art Hodes session for Delmark - among other albums - ... He had no relation with the Hollywood film producer who had the same name. That Kohlman produced - among other films - 'You're In the Army Now', 'Pal Joey', 'Bye Bye Birdie'...
