  1. My copy of Coltrane's 'Selflessness' (9161) has a US cover and a French (excellent) pressing. The label is orange and black. The French distributors of Impulse at the time kept the orange and black labels for quite a while!
  2. Hal McKusick 'Triple Exposure' (VICJ), the complete Prestige session Kenny Drew 'This Is New' (VICJ) with Donald Byrd and Hank Mobley Howard McGhee 'Dusty Blue' (Bethlehem Japan) Lee Konitz 'Jazz Nocturne' (Venus) my favorite record shop was selling these mint CDs - and several more I let for other interested people - at €10 each. These - except for the Konitz - will replace my vinyl reissues!
  3. Well, his disc might not be one of the greatest of the JiP series, but it's not bad, I think. One of the JiP I never bothered about. Might check it and find out how Guy Lafitte is on the one! Dieval is one of those pianists that left me cold! However I have one of his album that features Rene Thomas on guitar. It is a pretty rare item nowadays. Has not been reissued! Also the CD of his date which came out under Eric Dolphy's name 'Unrealized Tapes' on WestWind: with Donald Byrd and Nathan Davis! A pretty good gathering!
  4. Happy Birthday, Johnny E! All the best to you... and to Reptet!
  5. Johnny Hodges 'Sandy's Gone' (Verve, stereo)
  6. Impulse LPs with catalogue numbers from 1 to 100 and have the orange and black label are originals. That label also was used for early releases in the 9100 series. My copy of the Lawrence Brown Impulse (a mono cover with a stereo sticker) is a later stereo pressing. There is a Van Gelder stamp on the dead wax of both sides. It does not have the original orange and black label.
  7. If you want to live long, read what other doctors found out http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/news/20...?src=RSS_PUBLIC
  8. I never think of Dieval
  9. All Hill admirers , and there are plenty here, wish him well. Hoping to hear and be amazed whenever he returns to France!
  10. Manny Albam 'The Jazz Workshop' (RCA) with Nick Travis, Joe Newman, Bob Brookmeyer, Hal McKusick, Al Cohn et al

    Helen Merrill

Helen Merrill and Gordon Beck at a 1992 jazz festival in Tourcoing, northern France.
  12. I did a search a couple of days ago and could not find the complete list. Don't think this one is complete but it can be of use! Jazz In Paris There was an english version of this a while ago but it's only in French by now!
  13. Milt Hinton/Bob Rosengarden/Hank Jones 'The Trio' (Chiaroscuro)
  14. Bobby Rosengarden had only one session as a leader. A delightful trio date that came out on Chiroscuro: 'The Trio' with Hank Jones and Milt Hinton. In the end, the album was not released under his name.
  15. From The New York Times today.
  16. I'ld go that way too! Tom, may I suggest you pay a visit to a FNAC store this month. They have a special CD discount on a number of items and that includes the Classics label: Opération -50% Price for one Classics at FNAC is €11,74. I'll let you do the calculation on how much you'll pay for two! The FNAC on the Rue de Rennes has a pretty complete selection of Classics, the one on the Avenue des Ternes is not bad either! Happy hunting!
  17. A very Happy Birthday to you, Garth

  20. RCA Spain reissued this on CD several years ago!
  21. Brownie, by coincidence I stumbled upon my copy of that yesterday! So tonight I pulled it out and enjoyed it. Oh yes! One of George Russell's best. Now spinning: Gerald Wilson 'Live and Swinging!' (Pacific Jazz)

    Don Cherry

Don Cherry playing with Sonny Rollins (also Henry Grimes and Billy Higgins) on Italian TV in 1963! http://youtube.com/watch?v=Z7g-YkEX2zQ&amp...ted&search=
  24. Larry Young 'Of Love and Peace' (BN, NY label, stereo)
  25. Israeli drivers are a special breed. Not really all, but a lot of them. They seem on speed (in the various interpretations of the word) all the time. I have driven in many countries all over the world and even enjoyed driving through the madness of road attitudes in numerous countries. Mexico, Italy, France, Egypt, Argentina, among others could be pretty bad (and sometime fun, I have to admit!). But Israel was no fun and the worst, with Morocco coming second. Car drivers in those two countries just ignore the road laws and drive on as if they own the road. In Israel, there is no way you can leave a small space driving behind another car without some crazed suicide-bent motorist coming in at full speed from left - and right - to fill the vacuum. With horn blaring at top volume and accompanying this with gestures I would not dare imitate. This from citizens that probably are very nice people and easy to get along with! In the end, I took the same attitude as you. Calm the fuck down! Glad you survived (thanks probably to Barak's expert help)!
