Ghost, you might also give a listen to the album 'Roots' by the Prestige All Stars
It includes an intriguing arrangement of 'Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child' by Alonzo Levister!
It's been a long time since I read it but I would consider getting a look at Eileen Southern's 'The Music of Black Americans, a History'. She deals with spirituals at length.
Thanks for catching up on this!
I have fixed the proper credit.
I should have waited to have my first morning taste of red wine before posting the two reviews
Ben Ratliff's review of last weekend's Cecil Taylor/John Zorn concerts at Jazz at Lincoln Center in The New York Times today:
Will Friedwald's review of the same concert in The New York Sun:
hey chewy, enjoy that one too!
The Gerald Wilson orchestra (not in Europe, as it says) with Joe Maini and Teddy Edwards soloing. Buddy Collette in the sax section too.

'Je Cherche Après Titine' was composed in 1917 as Durium's website indicates.
It was popularized by French soldiers in WWI trenches. It was even more popular - probably because it is easier to sing - than 'La Madelon'.
Titine was an abbreviation of Clementine
There is no mention of a CD release of this one! About time it gets a reissue treatment. Unless there was a Made in Japan release.
My vinyl copy hails from Canada!
Happy Reunion was originally published on the French label Owl.
Since I'm not much of a fan of post-Quintet du Hot Club deFrance Grappelli, I bought it mostly for Solal.
I must say I found the album very worthy with Grappelli in top form. As always delighted by Solal.
In other words, very recommended!
