  1. Randy Weston Select, disc 1
  2. Dan, it's a bootleg, no doubt about it. But it's a good live date in OK sound. Philly Joe is in top form throughout and leads a cohesive group with Reece shining. Don't think I have anything else with Ben Jenig but he is an alright sax player!
  3. Frank Butler 'The Stepper' (Xanadu)
  4. Sadie, welcome! Paris came here a few days ago. Hope between the two of you, you will be able to find those Carole Reiff negatives and have them republished. Good luck to both of you!

You won't be disappointed. It's really a good one! And the prize is not bad!
  6. And I have outlived Sam Giancana by four days dirol.gif I already feel better!
  7. I have outlived Ingrid Bergman 29 days ago. Give me time and I will have outlived: Ava Garner in 3 days, Dexter Gordon in 28 days Spencer Tracy in 36 days
  8. The release date seems to have been slightly postponed. Amazon. fr does not have a firm date yet. But there will be a press preview in Paris on December 5 so the book should be out around that date!
  9. The mono version is awesome. Better than the stereo which was just plain excellent. Now spinning: Lawrence Welk & Johnny Hodges (Dot, mono) sweeeeet!
  10. Philippe Noiret was a remarkable actor. Also an interesting character. He helped Bertrand Tavernier launch his film directing career and starred in several of his films (but not in Tavernier's 'Round Midnight'). A favorite Tavernier film with Noiret is 'La Vie et Rien d'Autre' (Life and Nothing But) made in 1989, an horrendous film set in 1920 in which Noiret plays the part of a French officer in charge of a team that seeks to identify dead soldiers. The film was widely acclaimed in France. Not sure it made an impact outside of the country.
  11. Have not seen James Bond films in ages. Positive posts here (and various reviews) may change my mind about it. Also understand that in the film James Bond makes good use of the Lillet aperitif as an ingredient in his favorite drink. Which is a sure sign of good taste! Lillet is also a favorite drink at home. It is made outside Bordeaux! Glad to see the Lillet is enjoying fresh fame. A highly recommended aperitif drink!
  12. Gene Roland 'The Band That Never Was' (Spotlite) featuring Charlie Parker
  13. You would be very wrong. There's a lot of beautiful music in a number of Phil Woods albums. Not all of them by any means. He may be narrow-minded in his musical appreciations but he is one of the most dedicated and passionate player!
  14. Interesting. I think one of my other LPs has a 'free with Downbeat subscription' flyer. One of the Andrew Hills - 'Black Fire'. No BN for me I received 'The Big 3' Milt Jackson-Joe Pass-Ray Brown' on Pablo with my DB subscription!
  15. Little music at home. And mostly off the radio in those hard times pre-TV years. My father did not listen to music much but my mother tuned in when singers like Yves Montand and Charles Trenet were on. Not to mention Edith Piaf and Les Compagnons de la Chanson. My parents had the good idea of acquiring one of those early radio-plus-turntable piece of furniture that enabled my brother and I to play vinyls as soon as we caught the jazz bug!
  16. Don't think there is controversy anymore. Ayler committed suicide. A very sad end! He was a Giant!
  17. Some of the other sessions that were graced by Walter Booker's talent: - the two Riverside albums by the JFK Quintet - Harold Vick 'Caribbean Suite' - Robin Kenyatta 'Until' - Milt Jackson 'Born Free' - Pete La Roca 'Turkish Women at the Bath' - Lee Morgan 'The Procrastinator' - Joe Zawinul 'Zawinul' - Betty Carter 'Now It's My Turn' - Junior Cook 'Good Cookin'' - Nick Brignola 'Burn Brigade' - Clifford Jordan 'Repetition' all those Cannonball Adderley (and Nat Adderley) albums and so many more...
  18. The Modern Jazz Quartet at Music Inn 'Guest Artist JimmyGiuffre' (Atlantic, mono, black label)
  19. Damn right you are! My needle and ears were on the right tracks, my mind was somewhere else
  20. Let's bring back the Seinfeld gang. They were more fun!
  21. Jimmy Rowles 'Plays Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn' (CBS France)
  22. There's a secondhand Hutcherson at Montreux CD available at Yahoo Shopping. $55 is the asking price I'll wait until the US dollar goes really down!
  23. The one Bobby Hutcherson album that would make a difference about the Select would be the Live at Montreux disc. Then I'ld buy that Select!
  24. I'm not a Hutcherson completist. Don't have those two. Will need to be pushed in a big way to get this Select. I have the other Hutch albums that complete the set.
  25. Earlier today: Lonnie Smith 'Drives (BN, Liberty) now: Lonnie Smith 'Turning Point' (BN, Liberty)
