  1. Very enjoyable set with PeeWee Marquette introducing the proceedings! Good band and the musicians have fun playing the music. Not really sure this was handled by FreshSound. The replica reissue vinyl I have this was Made in Venezuela!
  2. If the sound is really better than the CBS France vinyls or Classics CDs, I'll be looking for that one. Love the Ellingtonia from that period!
  3. Melba Liston 'And her Bones' (MetroJazz, mono)
  4. Some positive news at last! Merci Bertrand!
  5. Oliver Jackson 'Presents 'Le Quartet'' (Black & Blue with Percy France, Cliff Small and Leonard Gaskin
  6. BBS, don't think these early Swedish releases were legit. Charlie Parker was under contract with Norman Granz and Mercury/Clef records at the time. As for the Charlie Parker release similar to Fran Staterna, I did not collect these items - they were so many of those - but the ones I saw sure looked as if they had been manufactured from the same plant line
  7. Never met her but I get the feeling that Mary Parks/Mary Maria was Ayler's Yoko Ono!
  8. Rare items by the AEC are included in this just released compilation that marks the 40th anniversary of the creation of the label Saravah. La Cave Saravah Click onward to view the tracks listings and listen to samples!
  9. Yes, it was Bob Thiele's idea. Albert Ayler agreed to it in the hope that the move would enable him to get more recognition!
  10. Unless I'm wrong somewhere, those Swedish sessions were first issued in Sweden in the early '50s on Oktav and Sonet. They were reissued later in England by Spotlite. The Crazed Olaf vinyl that chewy picked up was obviously lifted by Boris Rose from one of these early Swedish vinyls. Latest incarnation from these Swedish sessions was the Storyville CD 'Charlie Parker in Sweden 1950, The Complete Recordings' that came out a couple of years ago.
  11. Brad, if you're stuck with brochure nr. 23 (Charlie Ventura) at the end of the auction, I'll be interested in getting it out of your way. Did not get that one when it was distributed and don't feel like auctioning on it!
  12. I never cared about that East Coast/West Coast controversy. The music is what really matters! Don't care that much where it comes from!
  13. Cees Slinger 'Sling Shot' (Timeless) with Clifford Jordan, Isla Eckinger and Philly Joe Jones
  14. Those LPs were not made in Sweden but in the USA. Boris Rose obviously liked those Scandinavian names. Another famous album he put out was the Charlie Christian/Wardell Gray album 'Tribute from Sweden' on the Fran Staterna label. That LP had various tracks including airchecks by the Benny Goodman sextet with Charlie Christian. Also airchecks by BG with Wardell Gray.
  15. Gray market stuff, probably Boris Rose originated. If you need details, there is this beautiful Charlie Parker discography site: http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/BirdSessions.aspx Have fun!
  16. No longer in print on vinyl! When I'm in THAT mood, I turn to the Bill Evans Final Village Vanguard box. And wish I had the opportunity to listen to Evans at the VV when he was still alive!
  17. No bid on this one yet. A bit high for a starting price. This True Blue just went slightly higher!
  18. This DVD was on my next purchases list. Will get this now. Even if it looks like it will still be available over here.
  19. Arnett Cobb 'More Party Time' (Prestige, yellow Bergenfield label, mono)
  20. Those Pescara festivals always had great lineups! Wish I had been able to attend some!
  21. Kenny Dorham 'Last But Not Least 1966, vol. 2' (Raretone) with Sonny Red, Cedar Walton, etc...
  22. Milton 'Mezz' Mezzrow 'A La Schola Cantorum' (Ducretet-Thompson) 1955 concert with Peanuts Holland, Milt Sealey, etc...
  23. New record price for this Rollins classic? Saxophone Colossus
  24. I would also include the Jazzland session with René Thomas, George Wallington's 'Prestidigitator' and Monterose's 'Body and Soul'. All good!
