Let's not overlook 'Smooth as the Wind', the one with strings and arrangements by Tadd Dameron (also Benny Golson). Blue Mitchell's playing on that one is nothing short of brillant.

Those Theresas made me move away from Pharoah's music. None of his later releases have made me regret this Not that they're bad but there's so much more compelling music elsewhere!

ORTF was the name for the goverment-owned and controlled 'Office de Radiodiffusion Télévision Française' which operated from 1964 to 1974. It was known as 'Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française' (RTF) before. It was modeled along the lines of the BBC. When the ORTF was replaced by several different bodies in 1974, the archives were transferred to the government-controlled INA (Institut National de l'Audiovisuel) which still keeps tight control of this material. As I have previously stated, all the Byg/Actuel reissue material that have shown up in recent years come from non-original material.

Pharoah Sanders 'Live at the East' (Impulse) have not played this one in a long time

Got these Pharoah Sanders albums as they came out. 'Tauhid' was the one that brought the most satisfaction. Spinned that one on a rotary basis years ago. The next ones were fine but sounded less intense. 'Not a fan of 'Love In Us All'.

Hope this new one will also be released on vinyl!

Even though I already had a number of those Mulligan Quartet sides, I purchased the Mulligan-Baker Quartet set when Mosaic released this in one of their very first sets. The liner notes still have the Ocean Drive, Santa Monica adress. Been among my favorite Mosaic boxes ever! Love the interaction between Mulligan, Baker and the other players!

The other of the two Straight Ahead Jazz LP's (Vol. 1 - SAJ-1001) gives May 31, 1953 as the recording date for the final 6 tracks of the above listing. Is this definitely wrong? Have both LP's been recorded on March 30/April 1, 1953? Just wondering ... FWIW The JazzFactory double CD releases gives all 3 dates (March 30, April 1 and May 31, 1953) for the recordings.

The video of the concerts given by the John Coltrane classic quartet at the Antibes festival in July 1965 seem to be resurfacing. Those Antibes concerts were directed by Jean-Christophe Averty and have not been seen in ages! Naima The video here carries the logo of the Arte TV channel! Edited to fix...
