In your own words, "get this box set, you won't regret it!"
Then it was Hamp on that opening track? Boy, I goofed on that one
Found the vibes player on that track a bit stiff. Well, I wish I will be that stiff when I reach 87
I'll plug in on those sets. Thought volume 1 was excellent, bringing a new perspective to the beginnings of the music. It included lots of wonderful music.
Volume 2 is even better. Selection of the various sides that are included is even tighter.
This is quite an enterprise and should be purchased by all those interested in jazz!
It's always a surprise when I am in New York to see the number of planes flying over the city.
Flying over Paris is a no-no, except on very rare occasions. And I suppose it's the same over main cities all over the world.
Getting from New Jersey to NYC is not that much of a problem via car, bus or train!
Thanks. Is yours signed RVG or VAN GELDER? When did BN stopped using the Ear? Is yours a deep groove?
Both sides bear the VAN GELDER stamp. No deep grooves...
Dmitry, original BN vinyls still carried the Ear stamp on the dead wax at the time of 'Empyrean Isles' release.
My mono copy of 'Basra' (BN 4205) has that Ear.
Most of the BN catalogue was still available thru the '70s. Piles ot BN vinyls - reprints mostly, not the real originals ones - ended up in shops were they were being sold for a few dollars.
Another plus to this collection is that it does look quite complete. The alternate takes are gathered on disc 4 so if anybody is bothered by those takes, there is no need to skip them.
