  1. Actually it was a Saba date. 'Ensadinado', a quartet session recorded in 1966 with Francy Boland, Jimmy Woode and Kenny Clarke. Never heard it.
  2. ARIC MIGHT HAVE KNOWN!
  3. Let's face it, Blue Note is no longer relevant in contemporary jazz Have not purchased any of their new releases in a long time although I will get the new Andrew Hill when it appears! BN reissues from an era when BN was the reference are a different matter ...
  4. Turned out to be a rerun of the 2001 BBC program that was produced by David Turnbull. No new footage, just several short and awful inclusions of black and white footage of a thinned down singer supposed to impersonate Billie Holiday as she appeared on stage! Short interviews with author Donald Clark, writers Nat Hentoff, Dan Morgenstern, Stanley Crouch, etc... Annie Ross, Yolanda Bavan, John Levy and Bobby Tucker also reminisced. But the Billie Holiday appearances are still magic!
  5. Naima has been among the favorite names in France in recent years. Its popularity soared from the '60s, rose during the '70s and peaked during the '80s. 243 girls were named Naima in 1977 according to the statistics! And yes, Coltrane's tune did this!
  6. Have enjoyed 'Undercurrent' since I found several years ago a vinyl reissue of the session in the BN King Japan series. The Introducing Kenny Drew trio date also comes from Japan, a BN Toshiba vinyl reissue with two additional takes ('Yesterdays' and 'Everything Happens To Me').
  7. Kenny Drew 'Undercurrent' (BN King Japan reissue) revived this after seeing a thread about this album on the Board!
  8. Might be worth catching for those who get BBC World TV.. Have not seen this yet, reruns skedded: Billie Holiday
  9. Julian Priester 'Keep Swingin'' (Riverside, mono) with Jimmy Heath, Tommy Flanagan, Sam Jones and Elvin Jones!
  10. Thanks for the advisory, faastrack. Will be looking for that Eddie Diehl debut album!
  11. My order of the Dexter Gordon Prestige box was delivered today! First time I have ordered from 2001. Very affordable price plus fast delivery. I like that. Looks like I will order more from them
  12. From Reuters Hate it when people get panicky for no valid reasons Continue to enjoy chicken at meals. Not only it is good but it's now part of my good-deeds policy -_-
  13. I have a mix of them, eight volumes altogether. They are interchangeable...
  14. Looking forward to listen to this. Ran Blake is a constantly fascinating pianist. Took me awhile to get into his demanding musicianship. He is now among my very favorite players.
  15. Only one insert in my copy, the four-page insert with all those amazing photos of various jams. Were they more inserts? At this prize, the LP is a steal!
  16. Phineas Newborn 'Piano Portraits' (Roulette Stereo) with John Simmons and Roy Haynes
  17. Thanks for providing the link. No wonder I could not detect any significiant difference in the mastering of the Morton LofC vinyls recordings released by Swaggie and CJM (I have a mix of them!). Which just keaves me with one question, why neither Swaggie nor CJM did bother to acknowledge the John RT Davies involvement with the mastering?
  18. Wild guess: - Regent = Savoy - Savoy records were reissued by Ariola in the 80s - Arista = Ariola? F Mais oui, bien sur! Forgot about Clive Davis, owner of Arista Records, buying the Savoy jazz catalogue in the mid-70s.
  19. There are a number of musicians I don't like, none that I hate! Too many good musicians I enjoy to bother about the ones I don't like -_-
  20. Had heard about the SNL appearance but never managed to watch it. Many thanks Dmitry for providing this
  21. 'Cause I bought them when they came out and they were pretty cheap then! I have almost all of those Roling. Don't have some including the Dollar Brand and the Rod Levitt!
  22. I think I paid £15 for an excellent copy of the UK Fontana with the Roling sleeve - that was a pretty good find. Bought 'Tears for Dolphy' for less than that. One hard to find vinyl was the Ted Curson 'Urge'. Never saw a copy of the original release and had to settle for a Japanese reissue!
  23. Gone, but not forgotten... Le Pétomane
  24. Dewey Redman 'Look For the Black Star' (Fontana)
  25. This the Bagley cd you're referring to? Sure looks interesting. How's the sound? Update: Per Hiroshi's latest newsletter, looks like this'll be out in March. Good news! http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...=0entry464358 Weizen, that's the one indeed. I have the Japanese vinyl reissue of it, mono copy on Arista Japan. Very good sound. Now don't ask me why it came out on Arista
