  1. Some of those Tampa albums had quite kitchy covers. I loved the cover of the Jimmy Rowles LP 'Let's Get Acquainted With Jazz... For People Who Hate Jazz'. A fine date with Pete Candoli, Harold Land, Barney Kessel and others. The cover boasted the recording was in Supersonic Sound. My mono copy probably does not do this justice!
  2. Happy Birthday
  3. Lou Donaldson is still scheduled to appear at Birdland April 5-8 with Lonnie Smith according to the Lonnie Smith webpage
  4. The link works fine. Very interesting music. Too bad the royal speaker uses this strange Swiss dialect language
  5. Search for a link to the article proved negative. 'The Ellington Reader' book seems areadily available at Amazon Highly recommended book! Oh, it's HODEIR not HODIEIR or HODIER, a common mistake
  6. In fond remembrance of Bob Weinstock, spinning two of the first Prestige albums that came my way, both with 50th St. labels and both still playing beautifully: Miles Davis 'Collectors' Items' with Sonny Rollins and Charlie Chan Sonny Rollins 'Plus 4' with Clifford Brown and Max Roach
  7. Hope we will be able to read soon the interview Dan Gould did with Weinstock not long ago!
  8. Wish I could be there Joe Wilder is a musician I have longed to hear live for years. And failed! Looks like he will have a strong trio with him!
  9. Very sad news... From the New York Times

    Joe Morello

Fresh Sound also released the vinyl copy of that Intro album, complete with its cover photo by Ray Avery!
  11. Dr. Hoffman's secret of longetivity: eggs for breakfast! From Reuters:
  12. One of French critic André Hodeir's most controversial article - 'Why Did Ellington Remake His Masterpiece?' -was a negative view of these two Ellington Bethlehem albums that was included in his book 'Toward Jazz'. There is a translation of his article in 'The Duke Ellington reader' collection which came out from Oxford University Press. It still makes a quite interesting read!
  13. Al Cohn/Bill Perkins/Richie Kamuca 'The Brothers' (RCA Victor) Al Cohn 'Play It Now' (Xanadu) with Barry Harris/Larry Ridley/Alan Dawson
  14. The Brothers are Cohn, Kamuca and Bill Perkins (not Holman)! This has been a favorite vinyl for decades! But I'm nuts about Cohn. And don't mind Kamuca and Perkins at all. Love The Brothers!
  15. He will turn 80 later this year. Probably needs a rest... Hope eveyrthing is OK with him!
  16. Been re-reading Isaac Babel's 'Red Cavalry'. Had read this several years ago. Still a fascinating experience!
  17. A major actress has gone away! From the AP: She was superb in so many films. Some of favorites films with her 'A Place In The Sun', 'Night of the Hunter', 'Lolita' and so many more...
  18. Hal McKusick 'Triple Explosure' (Prestige Japan reissue)

    Gato Barbieri

It's pretty structured improvisations. A beauty! Don't waste time... Get it!
  20. Might well be! Will wait for reports from Mac-using friends in the photography field.
  21. Jason is an entrepreneur indeed... http://www.cinecon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17714
  22. I use a digital camera too nowadays. Easy to use and convenient. But it's just another tool! The reflex Nikon F camera was something else! A third eye with brain! And even if great prints can still be made from digital images, I have yet to see the digital equivalent of the exact quality art prints that can be produced by darkrooms using enlargers.
  23. Yes, Britain got the Cilla Black version. The US got the Cher version!
  24. Don Cherry 'Eternal Rhythm' (MPS)
  25. Not totally unexpected but a sad day for lovers of the Photographic art. From AP I have kept three of the Nikon F cameras that I constantly used during my photo-taking days. I have taken them to all type of assignments and never ceased to be amazed at their quality and reliability. Looks like they belong to museums now...
