Looks like SHE should have been in the driver's seat of the damn Mercedes instead of that Henri Paul on the night of her fatal crash!

Still waiting for BFT22 copies here
-
That track was the big surprise, as far as I am concerned. The fact that BG was not heard on it prevented me from identifying it. But it's really an interesting tune with an arrangement that give it justice. And I'll go back to that tenor solo by Jon Walton. Dick Sudhalter mentions it in his book 'Lost Chords'. He describes Walton as British-born. Never heard of him before. Need to check on him. I'll take more time futurely to answer the BFT listings. The Terry Gibbs and Harry Edison albums I have and I should have identified those tracks!

There was an LP on the Merritt label 'The Complete Clarence Profit 1939-1940' which gathered his solo and trio sides. A really excellent vinyl. The British label Memoir also issued an anthology of Profit track. Looks like the CD is out of print now. That one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...0687470-4807005

I still have to post about Big Al's Christmas disc. Listened to it once at Christmas time. But right now, I'm just sick and tired of all this Xmas business. Will be posting impressions on the disc before Easter

Went to Downtown when I was in town couple of months ago. Don't think the Bailey DVD was being sold then. Did not see it. Will watch for it. But not sure I am that hot to see him play in the flesh And s'il vous plait no 'mon pomme'... or mon homme either. Will settle for mon ami -_- Bon voyage! -
And many thanks, Lon, for posting the Pee Wee photos. An incredible musician and a unique character!

And now Harry, Diana's (and Charles') younger son, creates another scandal after he shows up at a birthday party wearing a nazi uniform... http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/a...ry_050113130038

Randy, many thanks for providing those rare clippings. They're great! Could you also provide information on where they were published?

Truth is I have run out of room to store new ones. But I did buy plenty since I got addicted more than half a century ago And I was hooked on people like Trane and Cecil Taylor before they were mentioned in the magazines at the time (I'm speaking of the late fifties). Also I have kept all of those vinyls except a very sad episode in my early life when I let friends share some of my albums before I was sent across the Mediterranean to fight France's war in Algeria. I was not able to get back some of the BNs and the original 50th of Saxophone Colossus I loaned at the time.

Clem, I already mentioned I have - and liked - the Tzadik 'Ballads'. I forgot to mention the FMP album with Cecil Taylor. Bailey was indeed a strong match to CT. I have never seen Bailey play live and I understand his appearances are scarce nowadays. The interview in The Wire made a good read! Interesting character! Thanks for the advices. I am learning every day... -

A firm yes to half of the items. A shy no to the rest! -
Late, who's the person second from left? The only one I can't put a name to. Oh yeah to the Mulligan Sextet box. I have enjoyed those albums for a long time...

Clem, I lose my gentleman and scholar status Back to square one! I have not read any of Watson's books. And I have trouble understanding the Bailey language. The only Bailey album I have really liked is the Ballads one out on Tzadik. Got last week the 'Music and Dance' album that was released by Revenant (a label I have a lot of respect for). Got bored with the stuff. Give me Barry Galbraith any time! Now Sun Ra is a different matter. Never had trouble getting into that music. Some of my best live performances memories are several evenings at Slug's - back in 1967 - when the Arkestra (the one with Marshall Allen, John Gilmore, Pat Patrick...) was spitting fire! Still I find it odd that Marshall Allen has trouble identifying Bird! And fails to discuss his music! -
I must say that when I was in New York last November, I tuned in on Schaap on Bird's show once. It was all talk and no music. I moved over!

What song is stuck in your head right now?

I'm stuck with the Charlie Parker with strings version of 'Laura'! And I love it! -
Today was the first day of winter sales. Went to the large stores to check the items for sale! Bought too much, once more! Virgin had many 5€ items (Japanese CDs went at 9€). No vinyls. FNAC had the sales items at 3€, CDs and vinyls. Virgin was selling quite a number of Tzadik and Chronogical Classics at 5€. Bought several Japanese piano trios CDs (Kenny Drew, George Cables). Also Evan Parker & September Winds FMP's Alder Brook. FNAC was also selling several Tzadiks. Got a couple of Masadas, plus Zorn's Madness, Love and Mysticism. At 3€ each, took the chance and hope not to be disappointed! At FNAC got some SteepleChases (including Von Freeman's Lester Leaps In and Walter Davis Jr's Scorpio Rising). Plus Enrico Pieranunzi 'Alone Together' with Philip Catherine, also an Yuri Horning's Seven. With a rhythm section of Paul Bley, Gary Peacock and Paul Motian, that one should be good! Grabbed a few Sun Ra Saturn reissues on vinyl also. I had my hands full. And will have an earful for a long time! The sales are supposed to go on for a full month. But the interesting items are sold within the first hour
