  1. Merci beaucoup, private Ubu. The mighty Swiss Army let you out on the weekend?
  2. On the AAJ Board, Christern announced the sad news of Robin Kenyatta's passing away. No other announcement elsewhere. The Robin Kenyatta's website does not have anything yet: http://www.robinkenyatta.com/

    Ronnie Ross

Tooter, I forwarded the details on the Hans Koller release to the Ronnie Ross site earlier today -_-
  4. - A Tribute to Thelonious Monk 'That's the Way I Feel Now' (A&M) One of the best of the Hal Willner albums!

    Ronnie Ross

Ronnie Ross is also among the musicians featured,on the recently released Hans Koller album for EmArcy: Hans Koller FreeSound Jeanneret The Lost Tapes: http://www.bocksmusicshop.at/ A quite interesting freeform album that was recorded in July 1978. Ross plays baritonesax and bassclarinet on that one.
  6. Very sad news. The name brings back so many memories of the great Blue Note and Prestige days!
  7. Great news, Dan! I'll get the November Cadence in due time and will read the interview. But when is that Weinstock interview going it to be published???
  8. Not jazz by a long stretch. From AP:
  9. Nice to see O. back on its feet!
  10. I'm not sure. The Commodore box sets are just LP releases, 3.500 if I remember correctly. The LP part of mixed CD/LP releases is much lesser - maybe 1.500 out of 5.000?! The Commodore boxes were limited series of 2,500 copies.
  11. Hope the beer was better than good! Happy Birthday
  12. Take good care, Daniel! A very happy birthday to you
  13. Thanks, everybody. And glad to be back in such a good crowd! Truth is this was the worst birthday I ever had. The day was marred by labor problems I had to resolve at work. Then an uninvited guest by the name of Yasser Arafat came in to crash the birthday party. Instead of spending a nice evening I had to work the phone to make sure the photographic welcoming party would be on hand when Yasser arrived in town to be treated in a suburban Paris hospital where he is expected any minute by now. Took just enough time to taste a wonderful bottle of Chateau Latour 1970 (Rachel, any good person deserves to taste that wine at least once in a lifetime!) with the family. The Latour was followed by a mature Partagas Lusitania but the smoke was interrupted by more phone calls from the office. A day to forget! And no time for music!
  14. A post-1957 search did not produce any record session
  15. Enjoy all of it! Happy Birthday, Maren
  16. And that cigar on wolff's avatar can't be a Monte Cristo 2. The tip of the real thing is narrower! http://www.cigarsclub.com/monte_no2.htm To return to the thread subject, aren't the Commodore boxes the rarest of all Mosaics?
  17. The New York Times' review of the 'Holy Ghost' box.
  18. Herbie Nichols, LP set. Discs 3 and 4
  19. The Bill Evans/Jim Hall date 'Undercurrent' was initially recorded for United Artists, not BN, in vinyl days. It was reissued later as a CD on BN.
  20. The Timeless All Stars 'It's Timeless' (Baystate) Recorded at Keystone Korner with Curtis Fuller, Harold Land, Bobby Hutcherson, Cedar Walton, Buster Williams, Billy Higgins
  21. Seems to have sold for just under $400, which is incredible for a cover in just VG condition with half of the back missing. Goldmine has this listed at $50 in NM condition. The last minute bidders raised the auction to $382. That's pretty expensive for a medium quality copy. I should put my mint original Saturns in a safe by now...

    Funny Rat

The Roswell Rudd is one of his best. The music comes from a Radio Hilversum concert in Holland. With John Tchicai, Dutch bass player Finn von Eyven and Louis Moholo. Understand Rudd made the tape available to America for release. The Braxton solo album showed up at the start of the deluge of Braxton records. Got quite a number of them but not that one.
  23. Current ebay auction for an original Saturn LP 'Secrets of the Sun', $200: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4045270159&rd=1
  24. Don Cherry 'Togetherness' (Durium) with Gato Barbieri, Karl Berger, JF Jenny-Clark and Aldo Romano
  25. I have it. Its solid, but probably more conservative than one might expect. If I remember correctly they play extended versions of a couple of standards. Solid and a bit conservative. But quite excellent. This was recorded July 28, 1955 at the Parc des Recollets in Longwy, eastern France. Four tracks: - Milestones, - Body and Soul, - So What, - Caravan Really worth looking for!
