All right. I have found what tracks 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 11 and 12 were. Wouldn't have guessed what track 10 was if hadn't been tipped on it. I'm sure who plays on track 9 but haven't been able to identify the record. Problem I have now: should I go ahead and list what I found so far or wait until everybody has listened to their disc? Nice catch, Alexander, of track 7, the only unaccompanied side of that album. Loved this version!

Some Forum Adminstrators are so ANAL

Didn't take very long for Saxophone Vagina to turn to Anal -
Should have added right away that track 4 was a bit too obvious. I thought track 6 was very obvious too (Red Callender on bass and Jo Jones on drums).

Thought I had that opening 'Body and Soul' track figured out. That left hand could only belong to Jimmy Rowles. I searched through my Rowles albums and could only find his solo version on the Jazziz LP 'Jazz Is a Fleeting Moment' but that B&S was a 9m3s version. Very similar but not exactly the same. It even crossed my mine for a second that Alexander had doctored his opening track but there were several differences (arpegios that were in one version, not on the other) until I remembered the Rowles participation in that beautiful Columbia session Stan Getz Presents Jimmie Rowled 'The Peacocks'. And there it was, that superb solo! One of two solos on the album. Now an important question: is it Jimmy or Jimmie Rowles! More answers/suggestions later this weekend...

Trying to stay away from work. Looking forward to listen to several new albums, watch a couple of movies on the TV film channels and have a long walk through the streets of Paris while humming (my whistling is too bad!) 'April in Paris'. The locals seem to have deserted the city. The Easter tourists have taken over...

I take it this falls into the tradition of those little known trailblazers, "The Farting Wilburys"... OK! OK! Stupid typo! That will teach me to post early in the morning and from my other computer

Willie Nelson Goes Jazz? From wirestories: At age 70, Willie Nelson has a new album, but it doesn't feature his signature crooning. The country-western icon's "Nacogdoches" is a limited-release disc of jazz instrumentals recorded five years ago at Encore Studios in the historic deep East Texas town that bears the album's name. Nelson is scheduled to arrive in Rusk County Saturday for his pre-Easter concert at the Rose Amphitheatre. The musician's 71st birthday, April 29, is also the scheduled street date of "Nacogdoches." The disc will be available exclusively through the Web site www.WillieNelson.com and at Texas Roadhouse restaurants -- a chain sponsoring Nelson's current tour as part of their long-time partnership.

Once Upon a Session - great article on session
brownie replied to The Mule's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Thanks, Harold, for outpointing this. Should have known that Fats and Chet would not mix -
I think they are on the Chronogical Classics Billy Taylor 1950-52 CD that has just been published. The session with Mingus dates from 1951.

Once Upon a Session - great article on session
brownie replied to The Mule's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Very interesting. Thanks to The Mule for posting this. Did not realise that Al Casey and Jo Pass were among the guitar players on the Chet Baker 'Blood, Chet and Tears' Verve album. Will have to give that one a fresh hearing if I can locate it. Bought it years ago, listened to it just once. Thought it was awful! -
No idea about the Criss but I'll be out looking for that one! I would not be surprised if that Lonehill label is part of the Disconforme group but there is no mention of the label or those albums on the FreshSounds/Blue Moon website.

I had decided to put an end to my jazz buying spree for the week but on the wy home yesterday I happened to go past one of the secondhand shops and went inside just to look. And there were all these CDs (with a euros 10 top prize): Cecil Taylor 'It's In The brewing' on HatArt, Cecil Taylor '3 Phasis' on NewWorld, Cecil Taylor 'Chinampas' on Leo, Jimmy Lyons/Jeanne Lee 'Nubia' on Black Saint, Marylin Crispell/Irene Schweitzer 'Overlapping Hands' on FMP Chet Baker Live in Sweden on Dragon. Well, that's it for this week. Unless...

Which period and time do you buy most of your jazz
brownie replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Most of my buying involves jazz from the 40s thru the 60s but I have a keen interest in what happened before and - with the help of a lot of posters on this Board - since. I was stuck on Parker but have now expanded from Charlie to Evan... -

Mine was waiting for me today. Posted from suburban Paris. You should have delivered it yourself if you were in town A warm welcome would have been extended! Gave it a very quick listen. Interesting choice. I'm in a mist about a number of the players. It's going to be fun!

Kidman and J Lo as swing musicians

The story line reads all wrong. But if they hire Mel Gibson to direct, then the Truth will be told -
This may be old news to some but I caught this today only. Can't wait to see that film B) There also is a report that both actresses will sing in the film

I'm spending way too much right now!! But I'll be retiring at the end of the year and will be off the payroll and depending on retirement money. Which means a major loss in income. Which is why I'm getting anything that strikes my fancy without hurting my wallet. Then I'll stop this spending, get to a purchase hibernation and enjoy what I have amassed!

If Arsenal had a bad evening yesterday, what about Real Madrid? Real Madrid is the team I most like to watch what with its terrific lineup and the beautiful soccer they provide regularly. They were on their way to an easy qualification against Monaco yesterday for the European champions league semifinal and found a team with a stronger victory will opposite them to concede a 1-3 defeat. Real's Zinedine Zidane was his usual nontalkative after the match but mentioned all this was very bad. It obviously was a great evening for Monaco coach Didier Deschamps, the same Deschamps who was captain of the French team which won the 1998 World Cup. The Monaco-Chelsea semifinal is a surprise but should hopefully be a very watchable confrontation.
