  1. Got it for much less than that. I should have bought lunch with the money I saved
  2. In Paris, the large music stores (FNAC, Virgin, etc.) which could not get rid fast enough of their vinyl racks more than ten years ago have reopened space for fresh vinyls lately. Lots of BN, OJC, Byg/Actuel LPs in those racks.
  3. My advice: forget about lunch. Grab that one. It includes Nathan Davis two albums for MPS 'Hqppy Girl' and 'The Hip Walk', both excellent. Great quintets with Woody Shaw, Larry Young (on piano!) on one and Carmell Jones and Kenny Clarke on the other. And you get a chance to get acquainted with Nathan Davis, an underrated musician. Can't miss. Enjoy!
  4. Every day is Dexter day. Just got his new Steeplechase 'Wee Dot' release. This was recorded June 10, 1965 at Copenhagen's Montmartre Jazzhus. Enjoying this thoroughly. Dexter plays a number of songs he rarely performed: 'Take the A Train', 'My Melancholy Baby' and 'What's New'. The Danish rhythm section (Atli Bjorn on piano, Benny Nielsen on bass, and Finn Frederiksen) is reasonably adequate but Dexter was obviously in a playing mood that evening. His version of 'What's New' stands out. Seems the Steeplechase people had problems deciding for the album title. The cover and disc say 'Wee Dot'. The cover spine says 'My Melancholy Baby'.
  5. Yes, Lon! There was the 'In Person' album by Tony Bennett with the Count Basie band in 1959. This was an exchange deal with Roulette where there was a second Bennett-Basie album released.
  6. Turns out that Claude Nougaro had just completed an album for Blue Note France when he died. Scheduled release date was April 2004. Nougaro's album will be titled 'La Note Bleue' (The blue note in French). It should be a jazz-oriented release. Barney Wilen already used the same 'La Note Bleue' title for one of his album.
  7. You make me feel so old!!! My pre teenage years were in the late ' 40s. My childhood hero was Tarzan. Anyone remember him?
  8. Miles Davis 'In A Silent Way' box Jimmy Lyons Ayler box
  9. Oh! The Frustration
  10. That cover looks as bad as my copy. And the vinyl sounds worse but the music surviving through the various scratches is just fine. Should have paid closer attention to the fine print in the liner notes to the Nat Pierce. The notes refer to a second Keynote album by Harvey Leonard. Checked the Lord book. That Leonard album was called 'Jazz Ectasy' played by a trio and a sextet (with Rehak, Jerry Lloyd, Teddy Kotick and Will Bradley Jr.). Can't get over never getting that Ectasy.
  11. Keynote was very active in the jazz field from 1943 to 1946 under Harry Lim. Lim went on to other activities but briefly reactivated the label in 1955. At least one 12" album was produced 'Jazz Romp' by Nat Pierce's Jazzmen. A very good album that featured quite a number of interesting people: Don Fagerquist, Doug Mettome, Ruby Braff, Frank Rehak, Matthew Gee, Billy Byers, Richie Kamuca, Freddie Green, Jimmy Wood, Jo Jones. Any other Keynote LP?
  12. That looks like the tunes from the Paris Theatre des Champs-Elysees concert back in March 1965 with Wes Montgomery and Johnny Griffin. Rhythm section was Harold Mabern, Arthur Harper and Jimmy Lovelace. This was originally a bootleg from the BYG label that was reissued on LP by Affinity. More tracks from that concert (including 'Full House' and 'Blue 'N Boogie' with Griffin came out on another French bootleg CD FCD'Esoldun 'Wes Montgomery Live in Paris 1965'. If you listen close enough you should hear me clapping from the audience. Was lucky to attend that concert.
  13. The only post-50 Columbia Basie album I know is the Ellington-Basie First Time one and this has been properly reissued. Now let's have Mosaic work out an arrangement with Columbia to reissue ALL the pre-195O sides. There are treasures a plenty there...
  14. This was a Muse original. Came out as 'Nomusa'. Recorded on January 28, 1975.
  15. Just looking at the cover keeps me happy! And what's wrong with catching some solos by Coleman Hawkins, Tyree Glenn and Hilton Jefferson? OK Tina was not a great singer but - oh boy! - was she a gorgeous redhead...
  16. Yes and also Kenny Dorham's daughter. The place to be, indeed. With Dexter and Dorham had recorded together. But that's music made in heaven B)
  17. No box of this type so far. Chronogical Classics is starting to issue the Basie Verve (Clef) era. They will do this their way. Wish Mosaic (or Verve?) would do this right! With the unissued items, alternates and improved sound...
  18. Careful, Brandon. The lady is Mrs. Betty Pearson. She married Duke P. shortly after the album cover photo was taken.
  19. Where are Jim, Joe and Randy? Dan, did you forget to send an invitation?
  20. Couw, I want my piece of THAT cake
  21. It's been a great first year. So nice meeting all you wonderful people! Many thanks to Jim and his colleagues Looks like the second year will be great too!!
  22. Forget Time Square, the Village Vanguard is good enough for this crowd
  23. If the report that Mosaic is planning a Benny Goodman Columbia set is accurate, how about having Mosaic do the Count Basie Columbia box? I already have the material but would love to have it done with improved sound by Mosaic. Mosaic knows how to do it the right way...
  24. It's going to be 6PM soon in most of continental Europe.
  25. Organissimo is the only birthday I am celebrating today
