  1. I have never ever considered a hot dog in a movie theater. I think the only way I could would be if Nathan's operated the theater.
  2. The Three Sounds Gene Harris Gene Haire (that was the family name, aksually)
  3. She sometimes went by Perri Lee, too: https://www.discogs.com/artist/5846881-Perri-Lee-Trio
  4. Yeah, I do have Click Repair - I have found it leaves artifacts behind (especially for trumpets) but used gently can work quite well ... I figure I would have to use click repair especially if it turns out to have that persistent sizzle background noise. I can edit out pops manually. Main thing is if it can clean up well and play thru. I'd be pretty stoked to hear the record then.
  5. Thank you, I will keep you in mind for sure. Hopefully someone can take care of the whole thing because I don't think my rig will react as well to a G+ record as a better one might. (Or, as Jim S. remarked to me, a 1950s rig with a 30 gram tracking force would probably play it perfectly. And might have once done so. )
  6. I am wondering if anyone in the US has the right equipment and the willingness to receive an LP I've purchased and attempt to get me the best possible transfer. Its super rare - Perry Lee Blackwell on Combo Records, featuring Curtis Amy - and I've been on the hunt for a very long time. At least I paid less than 1/2 of their asking price, for a "G+" copy. (And hey, that means its not supposed to skip!) So I am thinking when I get it in hand that if there's going to be a usable transfer made, it's going to need a nice cleaning, and a rig that can power thru some marks, and I have no cleaning rig, and pennies taped to the end of the tone arm might not work so well. So is anyone willing to help out? I would pay for return shipping. Please post or PM. Thanks!

  8. I just hope the radio archive takes it as seriously as the people do. Hopefully the producer that Agustin has been in contact with can help me ... I am now wondering whether the concert would have taken place live or in the previous ... week? Month? and then get edited for broadcast. I've also done a google search for a concert poster but no luck. BTW I updated the google translate page correcting for Adobe mistakes and we get this - looks a lot better: 22.15 Radio uno jazz '80 Coordinated by Adriano Mazzoletti Public Season of Jazz Concerts From the Great Hall of the Conservatory Giuseppe Verdi - from Milan Concert by the Sammy Price Trio. Percy France. Candy Mc Donald Presents Piero di Pasquale Broadcast made in collaboration with the RAI regional office for Lombardy

  10. Sad news indeed; I wish my memory of hearing him live was more fond than it is; it was at a Blakey tribute at Lincoln Center, his soloing was lackluster and at one point I caught him checking his wristwatch. Nevertheless a giant with many fine moments captured on record. I'll be pulling some out today.
  11. I sort of did too, when I first saw it, but I'm glad Jim S. recommended it to me it is a nice date.
  12. No, but I applied a filter to try and draw out what's at the upper left, per mjzee's suggestion that it could actually be the Five Spot, and this is the most clarity I could achieve. Nothing.
  13. There are universal players available (I picked up one for $24, Amazon Prime - and if your PC has good speakers, audio/video software VLC should have no trouble playing it.
  14. Wow - thanks to all! And what a beautiful location for a night of boogie, blues and jazz. (I think some of the issues in the translation by Google came from using Adobe to convert to searchable text after I saved the PDF. They like to make i's into o's. And, Discogs tells me that Sammy Price made a record with Candy McDonald in 1980, with Doc Cheatham, backing a girl singer. Other than taking place in Italy it all makes sense. ) So is there a huge Italian radio archive just like the one in France? You guys are the best.
  15. So from Niko pointing at the Internet Archive I decided to check for "Percy France" and I found this very interesting hit. The publication is RadioTVCorriere and is from 1980. The heading says "Radiodue" which google doesn't even translate. It also says 22,15 making me think its a 10:15 pm broadcast? is the verbiage: Radiouno jazz '80 Coordinate da Adroano Mazzolett• Stagione Pubbflca do Concerto Jazz Dalla Sola Grande del Conservatoroo · Giuseppe Verdi - do Milano Concerto del Tno Sammy Price. Percy France. Candy Me Donald Presenta Piero di Pasquale Trasmlss oone reallzzata on collaborazoone con Ia Sede regoonale AAI per Ia Lom· bardia and google translate gives Radiouno jazz '80 Coordinated by Adroano Mazzolett • Public Season of Jazz Concerto From the Sola Grande of the Conservatoroo Giuseppe Verdi - from Milan Tno Sammy Price concert. Percy France. Candy Me Donald Presents Piero di Pasquale Trasmlss is realized with collaboration with the AAI registered office for Ia Lom · bardia So is this a Sammy Price w. Percy France concert originating in Milan in 1980? There is no indication I've found anywhere that Percy went to Europe before February 1982 (with the Oliver Jackson Trio). Any help is appreciated! 16. Woh! "Percy France" hits, and not just for Home Cookin' either. Thanks, Niko, had no idea about this source.
  17. That album cover throws me on the date given for the photo but I don't think there is any reason to assume that Grant used both organists at different times in the general time frame. As for Newspapers.com I have only used the free trial period for my research and just made sure to concentrate my time during. If you're going to do general research or want the ability to search for whatever, whenever then obviously you need a membership. The one big disappointment I have had with newspapers.com is that the search engine isn't perfect in my experience. I have had many "hits" that when you open up the link it says "0 of 0" and there's no actual hit for your search term on the page. At least eventually I figured out that if you don't want yellow highlighter on your snip, you need to use their snipping tool to save what you find, rather than your PC snipping tool.
  18. The author of the Patton thesis was one of the musicians who ultimately helped verify that my "John Patton" with Percy France recording really is Big John on piano. That thesis is a great accomplishment I hope people take time to go thru it.
  19. Jo Jones Phil Schaap Percy France
  20. Congrats, looks like you've done tremendous work on this.
  21. No disc drive and USB port ... so nothing exists outside of the cloud? No one has any discs for loading programs anymore? This is mind-boggling. I have a Windows 7 machine and a Windows 10 machine, both with disc drives and multiple USB ports, and one has excellent speakers which is how I listen when not in the car, and a 2014 Kia with a CD player (and a USB port which I do use on occasion). I can't imagine functioning without these.
  22. Pretty sure if you have a laptop you can play a CD still.
  23. And now, up today, from 1980 Chicago Jazz Fest: Art Ensemble of Chicago
  24. If anyone's concerned no flu/covid symptoms post second shot. In a way I wish that I had been knocked on my ass for 1/2 a day. Then I'd know that my immune system was primed and ready to rock and roll.
  25. Funny, I have to say this would be my first "box set" I ever owned though I have to say I didn't buy it (well, request it as a gift) until 1976 or later, because the enormous poster that came with it lived on the wall of my loft/bedroom but only after we had moved to CT. I don't think I spent much time with the box myself, I was happy though with the Greatest Hits package I got earlier in the 70s, and I've often suspected that my love of jazz was indicated years ago by my enjoyment of Chicago, though only really in the horn sound, not in their earliest "experimental" days as shown on that box set.
