All minor league teams have rosters which consist of players under the control of the parent team. Is it that way in English "football"? Furthermore the very best AAA teams in a given year consist of a few guys who are on the cusp of actual major league careers, several who are past that point but hope springs eternal, and the rest will get no more than a cup of coffee in the big leagues because ... they really really aren't that good at all, compared to big league players. The jump is enormous between AAA and the majors. This is beyond apples to oranges its completely ludicrous.

Yeah I was thinking about Reggie and this in particular as I wrote this, and yet ... check out the end of the clip. Reggie is in fact hauling ass around 2B, as much as he ever did. Nowadays there'd be an epic bat flip, stand at the plate, and 3:30 minute trot around the bases.
-
And not least because hitters ran around the bases after a home run. no styling, no profiling (and I love Papi's trot still).
-
Yeah I was just browsing a seller on discogs and every one I saw was at least $25 if not well more, including a 45!

There is a huge performance difference between pinch hitters in the NL and DHs. There may be one pinch hitter on the bench who is a power threat. Maybe one other with a sort-of knack for getting a base hit? That doesn't remotely compare to what a league average DH does in the AL. And let's not forget that games that go long can end up with the bench used up and a relief pitcher having to swing the lumber. Or be strictly forbidden from swinging the lumber, as the case may be.
-
Shifts have existed forever. There should never be a rule saying that defenses cannot move anyone anywhere if that's where the hitter is likely to hit it. Teach hitters to bunt, hit it the other way, or hit it out of the park where no one can be stationed.

Do PEDs make receivers extra slippery and impossible to cover one on one? Because, you know, that's basically Edelman's skill set right?
-
I think it's the latter. Just because players think they should get record-setting contracts and aren't doesn't mean owners are colluding in any way. It takes at least two to tango and the players aren't jumping at what they do get offered, you end up with major talent sitting around while their friends are reporting to camp. It will be interesting to see whether the next negotiation with the player's association is ugly or leads to a work stoppage of some sort. It took a while but the ideas they agreed to with a sort of soft salary cap is finally biting into the salaries at the very top of the market.

Here's a trade rumor the Yankees should f-ing jump at: Per Buster Olney, the Giants need outfield help desperately and might take Ellsbury off the Yanks hands in exchange for SP Johnny Cueto. Cueto just had TJ surgery is out for 2019, owed $68 mil, and Ellsbury has two years plus a contractual buyout for about $45 million. You know if they both equally sucked it would be a fine trade but Cueto has made 292 starts pitching to a 1.19 career WHIP. He'd be 33 making his return from TJ surgery. Ellsbury is, at best, replacement-level right now. I have to ardently hope this is purely Olney making shit up.

Am I totally off or wasn't it "out of bounds, clock stops to next snap" regardless of time of game?
-
And what precisely was the rationale stated? Games that only have sixty minutes of "action" should have as little action as possible so we can get them over with? Does anyone doubt that there would be more scores at the end of a half or opportunities for such if the old rules were kept? The least they could have done is made the rules the same for both halfs and have the clock stop with five minutes left, period.
-
Probably both but this "let the clock keep running" is stupider than any of baseball's efforts to shorten games.
-
Holy shit its been 11 years? OK so everybody is used to it but that doesn't mean it makes a lick of sense. You already have a game ruled by a clock. Who needs it sped up? How many end-of-half drives never happened because of the cumulative loss of clock time for the first 28 minutes of the half? Dumb dumb dumb. So, when exactly did they switch to 4:30 or 4:15 late-game start times? Because I can only assume they adopted this rule because too many broadcasts were bleeding into the second game of the day, and a slightly later start time makes a helluva lot more sense.
-
I disagree it was the most boring Super Bowl of all time. You could have the same difference in scores in one of those 'all offense no defense" games but those boil down to "can we get the ball back one last time?" when it seems inevitable that the offenses can't be stopped. Here the Patriots were clearly playing better but every single possession, the Rams were one defensive breakdown away from taking the lead. Very edge-of-your-seat, not boring, if you ask me. Anyway I have a serious question for NFL fans: When did the rules change about an out-of-bounds stopping the clock? Is it different under two minutes remaining? Twice I noticed a Patriot receiver going out of bounds, the clock was stopped, but when the ball was spotted, clock started again! WTFH? I could not believe it. What a dumb rule, whenever they adopted that.

It's been a nice run but it ends here. Thanks to everybody who ever participated in my many efforts to share tunes I liked and tunes I thought would surprise people. And a lot of Gene Harris and almost as many not-quite-Gene Harris. Track 1 Herb Geller, "Jump for Joy" Birdland Stomp (Freshsound) I was on a Kenny Drew kick when someone mentioned this one (Drew is on piano) and I am glad I picked it up even if few seemed to enjoy this track. Track 2 Joe Van Enkhuizen - Jumpin with Symphony Sid, Blues Ahead https://www.allmusic.com/album/blues-ahead-mw0000915465 Han Bennink on drums, not a lot of love expressed. If you like the tenor, try this one from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Rhythm-Section-Enkhuizen-Harewood-Horace/dp/B001NVJOKM/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1548970387&sr=8-7&keywords=joe+van+enkhuizen Track 3 Sal Nistico, “The Hymn” Empty Room (Red) https://www.discogs.com/Sal-Nistico-Empty-Room/release/5260456 Track 4 Wild Bill Davis “Jive Samba” The Zurich Concert https://www.discogs.com/Wild-Bill-Davis-Quartet-The-Zurich-Concert/release/9891384 I wanted to program a tenor I always enjoy but hadn't thought I had included in prior BFTs: Clifford Scott. Track 5 James Suggs – “My Baby Kinda Sweet” You're Gonna Hear From Me (Arbors) https://arborsrecords.com/products/james-suggs-youre-gonna-hear-from-me Young trumpeter, I picked this track because Houston Person sat out and I didn't want attention paid to his easily recognizable sound. Otherwise he is basically co-leader on the date, as the group is more or less his. This is a really nice record IMHO and any fan of Houston should pick it up. And the trumpeter deserves some attention. Track 6 Irv Stokes – "Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans", Just Friends (Arbors) https://arborsrecords.com/products/irvin-stokes-just-friends One good Arbors release deserves another ... Track 7 Lance Hayward feat Percy France "Bye Bye Blackbird" Lance Hayward, A Closer Walk (Town Crier) This was a late addition, another tenor I don't think I had included before, I was reading some old threads about Percy and decided to see if there was anything else out there and this popped up, cheap. Percy is on three tracks only but everybody needs more Percy France. Track 8 Tommy Newsome – Easy Living Friendly Fire (Arbors) https://arborsrecords.com/products/tommy-newsom-friendly-fire I added this one to my Arbors order for the James Suggs, hoping there'd be a nice track to include. Tommy could play, if you didn't know. (Arbors Records deserves support - new CDs are $10 each with very quick shipping.) Track 9 Dave Kamien "Summertime" Let's Swing https://www.discogs.com/Dave-Kamien-Lets-Swing-Jazz-Zum-Mitnehmen/release/3155393 That's Carmell Jones and Slide Hampton a lot of people were dissing. Kamien plays piano, you can see the other credits at the link. This seems to have been an Aebersold-style record, with one side featuring major solo talent (Wilton Gaynair plays saxophone) but side 2 is just rhythm tracks. Track 10 Ben Webster, “St Louis Blues” Ben Webster, At Ease https://www.discogs.com/Ben-Webster-And-The-Frans-Wieringa-Trio-Ben-Webster-At-Ease/release/3070261 I bought this LP as something by Ben I hadn't heard of. Imagine my surprise to find that supposedly the leader of the trio, Wieringa, was basically an amateur and that this is considered one of the worst or the worst of Ben's European days. Wieringa simply paid the man enough that he said "Ok" to the date. So now knowing the background I figured I had to test everybody's ears and see if they recognized a bad rhythm section when they hear one. I thought the musicans among us would be unanimous but Thom actually thought it was Gene Harris. Track 11 Tim Richards Trio - Oh Well Oh Well (Gene Harris), 12 by 3 Track 12 Three Sounds – Oh Well Oh Well – Black Orchid Disappointed no one said "is it live or is it memorex?" after I programmed the same Gene Harris composition back to back, a pretender and the man. Track 13 Ben Markley Big Band – Bolivia Clockwise: The Music of Cedar Walton Jim found the recording and ID's the trombonist, former O-person Paul McKee. Had to program it but no one else seemed to care. Track 14 Essence All-Stars, "True Blue" Organic Grooves https://www.discogs.com/Essence-All-Stars-Organic-Grooves/release/794113 I've enjoyed all of the HipBop releases from the 90s. Track 15 Ron Blake, “Mister Magic” Lest We Forget https://www.discogs.com/Ron-Blake-Lest-We-Forget/release/7702689 Track 16 Johnny Shacklett, Hoffman House Blues, Johnny Shacklett Trio at Hoffman House https://www.discogs.com/Johnny-Shacklett-Trio-At-The-Hoffman-House/release/4607350 Mike Weil mentioned this as a very rare part of Mel Rhyne's discography so I tracked it down. Track 17 “The Tom Byron-Debi Diamond Blues” Bill Heid, from The Chameleon (That's my title for the tune.) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097039/fullcredits?ref_=ttfc_ql_1 Music Department Ike Allen ... musician: drums Randy Gelispie ... musician: drums (as Randy Gillespie) Bill Heid ... performer: original music Perry Hughes ... musician: guitar Paul Keller ... musician: bass Kurt Krahnke ... musician: acoustic bass Russ Miller ... musician: alto saxaphone Mike Pashenee ... musician: trombone Scott 'E-Dog' Peterson ... musician: tenor, soprano, baritone saxophone Alex Rogowski ... musician: guitar Walt Szymanski ... musician: trumpet & flugelhorn (as Walt Szymanski II) Steve Wood ... musician: tenor saxophone I figured people had heard - I know there's been a thread about it - that Bill Heid scored some porn films so when I found this scene I had to lift the audio and program it. But no one remembered or cared. To borrow the Gene Harris title "Oh Well Oh Well".

Brad you're missing Swiss Nights Volume 3 with Dex doing his best Billy Eckstine on "Jelly Jelly". That's an all-time classic and the rest of the CD is great too.
-
Well I just have to say that I read their Wiki page, and they get a million negative stars from me for "The Way We Were". Not sure how to judge them for writing the lyrics to the tv show 'Good Times'.
-
This one has many good Steeplechase recordings mentioned HELL YEAH.
-
No, Steeplechase never went that route. I know there was a thread about his Steeplechase recordings.

Thanks but right now ...
