  1. Good enough pianist to make his debut with Brian Lynch, who you've spoken admiringly of in the past: http://brianlynchjazz.com/bands/brian-lynch-emmet-cohen-quartet-and-duo/
  2. Subway club: Track Listings Disc: 1 1. WAVE 2. DIDN'T WE 3. ON THE TRAIL 4. SECRET LOVE Disc: 2 1. IT'S YOU OR NO ONE into THE THEME 2. FRIED BANANAS 3. SOME OTHER SPRING 4. 'ROUND MIDNIGHT 5. LADY BIRD
  3. Both are on the Dutch Jazz release of Ben Webster Meets Piet Noordijk. (that is, piano and drums) I wouldn't hesitate on this one when it comes to the CD but then again I have been diagnosed a Dexaholic a long time ago.
  4. with an extra one for sharing the Percy date:
  5. Mom has a system that is home-based, no fall detection (she's never knocked herself out thankfully) thru Life Alert. They have options for fall detection. The big box that is hooked up to a land line gets someone on the line in a couple of minutes, if they don't hear a response they contact EMTs close by. Mom's house is large enough that they never hear her but if she can't get up she needs the help anyway. Is there desk service 24/7? Because they'd have to get into the building and then into his unit. Mom got a free locking key case that is on the front door so the EMTs get in quickly and find where she's fallen. (she had a fall once while I was visiting. I am a heavy sleeper and my room is at the other end of the house from hers, she would never wake me up to get help. Can you imagine a heavy sleeper being awakened by an EMT guy trying to tell you that she fell, she's been throwing up and needs to go to the hospital? That was not an experience I'd like to re-live.)
  6. This is how I was confused ... there are pull ropes to get the desk involved, but the emergency button/fall detection is separate, which is in keeping with the idea of having a private space with communal meals and some personal care services. Also in keeping with the fact that they don't have skilled nursing and that medical professionals should come to assess his condition, should he bang himself up on the way down, as it were. I would definitely say this is something to retain after he moves.
  7. I gotta ask Mark did anyone ever say "hey, he stole that from Rikki Don't Lose That Number!" ?
  8. At this rate we may see something new: Boos during a game when the home team receives its Championship rings. Or does Boston hold its fire because its a big exciting celebration and just boo them the rest of the time. So glad I didn't pay for Extra Innings yet.
  9. I'll add a thumbs up for that Jukebox Jazz comp mentioned by medjuk. BN put out a ton of 45s for the Three Sounds and I would guess for the organ jazz market which I would think both aimed at jukeboxes in bars.
  10. I saw this and thought that it would be a really good thing for Mick to be healthy when he takes the stage since to all reports he's every bit as energetic as ever when performing, and can you imagine if he croaked in front of 50,000 people for an untreated heart condition? Many musicians have died on stage or in close proximity but if it happened to him it would have to be in front of the biggest audience ever.
  11. This might even continue all year long the way its going ... Sox are a disaster, and Yankees are looking at no Stanton for a month and Andujar gone for the year depending on how bad his labrum tear may be and what they want to do. Definitely sounds like a major injury or one with the potential to become major if he plays too soon.
  12. Of course! Why would the marketing of records be different back then?
  13. I'm glad to hear Dad is on board it seems like a good fit in so many ways. I have to wonder if it was less familiar to him whether he'd be quite so on-board. Two questions I would have are is there some sort of on-site "I've fallen and I can't get up" system? If he did fall how would anyone know that he needs help? So there is no skilled nursing available? It's hard to believe that dementia short of "the worst" doesn't still require skilled nursing to handle. Its not a worry now so not a big deal but I was surprised to read your description of the care available.
  14. And what about this one? To keep it on the topic of this thread, the discography for Garner says after 1949 he didn't record with a horn again and there's no mention of Maxwell Davis in the pdf file.
  15. So on these Teddy is the main soloist on three of the tunes listed and he doesn't get a mention on the cover? Talk about not giving a damn ... Edit to add: Was Criss even on any of these numbers or did they misidenitfy him when its definitely Teddy? Edited again to add: Listened to the Grind and even though I suck at the BFT game that sure as hell sounds like Teddy to me.
  16. Interesting I was wondering if there would be a Percy France discog duplicating what I've spent the last three weeks working on ... checking out the Teddy Edwards discography what the heck is this? Can't find any indication of this anywhere. TEDDY EDWARDS QUARTET LA. 1959/1960 Teddy Edwards (ts), Gerald Wiggins (p), Joe Comfort (b), Bill Douglass (dm). Four titles were recorded for Crown: The Grind Pt 1 Solo 5 choruses of 12 bars. (S) The Grind Pt 2 Solo 7 choruses to coda. (SM) Across Town Soli 64, 8, 8, 64 and 48 bars to coda. (F) I’ll Get Away Soli 80 and 48 bars to coda. (SM) Miss Beat Intro 8 bars to solo 64 bars. Solo 88 bars to fade out. (M) This is TE at his very best!! Possibly not on “Across …” which is rather messy (what sort of superviser did Crown use, none at all?), but the other three items have much groovy and swinging tenorsax playing to offer, my favourite is the first part of “The Grind”, plus some fine piano playing.
  17. Sox lock up six more years of Xander Boegarts all the way to 2025. Glad he is open to it and signed on the dotted line. Too bad Betts will never agree without testing free agency after 2020's world series, but then again it will give the Yankees a chance to come up with a truly inventive reason why they aren't interested. Oh hell who am I kidding? They'll back up the Brinks Truck and just ask him to say 'when'.
  18. Am I seeing this schedule correctly? First six games against the Yankees are in NY, and they don't have a true home game vs the Yankees until the very end of July? WTAF? (the two games in London are "home" for Boston but will it really feel that way, other than getting last licks? I am thinking London will have more New Yorkers, or fans, than Boston will). And there are two series only in August and September, last head-to-head leaves a full three weeks left in the season. Who the hell put this schedule together? (not to mention 11 straight on the road to start the season, and in locations highly unlikely to give any reprieve via inclement weather.)
  19. No one wants to hazard an opinion? I have found out about a 1949 recording: Mays Haze / Slow Rock (instrumental) Baritone Saxophone [Uncredited] – Cecil Payne Bass [Uncredited] – Art Phipps Drums [Uncredited] – George James (10) Piano [Uncredited] – Gil Coggins Reeds [Uncredited] – Percy France Trombone [Uncredited] – J.J. Johnson, Kai Winding Trumpet [Uncredited] – Bernie Glow Vocals – Betty Mays (tracks: A) A slow blues with a Percy solo would be a nice way to kick off my Percy France compilation.
  20. There are a ton of private recordings - radio broadcasts/audience/soundboard - that trade on the interwebs. I wouldn't be surprised if most or all of these are from his own personal collection.
  21. OK not King anymore but still on the hunt for Percy France material. Grove tells me that he started with a gal singer and then worked with Frank Humphries before going with Doggett. This would have been 1950 to early 1952, give or take. And Humphries had some recordings in that era (with a pianist name of Herbie Nichols!). So what say you, either of these sound like Percy on tenor?
  22. Just another rock 'em sock 'em Clifford Scott instrumental until you consult the King discography (or other online sources) and take note of the band: Clifford Scott Rec. July 8, 1958, Chicago Bob Bryant (tp), Clifford Scott (ts, fl), Andrew Hill (p), Wilbur Wynne (g), Malachi Favors (b), Earl Thomas (d) Good Gosh KING 5145 Eastwood Blues unissued ? Cuban Echoes KING 5145 Tossed Salad KING 5836
