The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase copping some of Curt Hennig's schtick on his sole leader date I can find. Damn near "perfect".

But the difference is that those sets came out in Mosaic's heyday long before the current malaise/massive change in the market.
-
Unfortunately I think Mosaic needs guaranteed profits on every set to keep the lights burning so we may see the former but I don't think the latter is too likely, unless a pre-order request gets the requisite response.
-
Am I the first to get the email? Mosaic says its a "go".

Yeah Bird was banned from Birdland for his "personal issues" but he never got busted or lost his cabaret card. I don't think there's any point to taking what a NYT writer says about the music - to say their fact checking is spotty is too kind - but could it possibly be that a cop could pull a cabaret card without an actual bust? That doesn't sound right and I always figured that Bird's out of town gigs was a function of going where he hadn't burned bridges. If he wasn't getting gigs due to unreliability in NYC, go to Boston or DC when he could ...

Double the since its a day late. Hope it was happy!

The things you find thru Discogs and in the stacks. Turns out Home Cooking Records put out an LP, which lists Jimmy Nelson. And of course I already had it. The liners mention that the Nelson tracks (only two) are with Arnett's band. Since it says Unissued Masters I guess these are the only tracks ever issued from that session.

I've been hounding the writer of the original piece about the status of the release. He still has no solid info but the scuttlebutt/rumor is that this was to be an independent release but after the initial publicity other companies may have stepped up to produce a wider-reaching better quality release. But that's just rumor at this point. Its kind of ridiculous that it was around spring training last year that the first report came out and the single was released for download.

What a fun record with Plas and Red w. Rhoda. Don't know how I over looked it originally but there's another Doodlin' release by Rhoda with Rickey Woodard. Have that one en route now.

Sad to hear that Tom Seaver has dementia and is retiring from all public appearances including the 50th anniversary of the Amazin's win in 1969. In 1975 or so my parents were looking to move from Long Island to CT and we went to his house in Greenwich at least a couple of times (I remember being impressed by the wraparound porch) but it didn't go beyond that so there was no contact with him directly. And anyway my parents probably weren't as impressed as I was since he helped break their hearts in '69.

A few observations re Paul Harvey. He basically followed me in my relatively short-lived radio career (mid-90s Tallahassee). He was a fixture on the powerhouse country station WTNT where I started. Shortly after I left for Mello 105 (soft adult contemporary) TNT let their contract lapse, and the owner of my new station grabbed him. This was where I really heard him regularly because of when we ran his stuff. The fact that he went from powerhouse country to upper-top ten in the market soft adult contemporary says something about his market at the time. The guy was a freaking brilliant broadcaster. Whether "The Rest of The Story" or his noontime 15 minute hit, his delivery was a seminar in cadence and timing and what it means to paint a picture in words. Absolutely perfect, all the time. At the time I goofed on him around the office but as I moved on to a true voice-over career I realized how good he was. And ... now you knooowwwwww ... The REST of the story.

Not good: Knuckleballer Steven Wright suspended 80 games for some sort of Human Growth hormone. Ironic considering that he doesn't exactly need help on the fastball. This really sucks considering how weak the bullpen looks right now and what he might have done in the first half, or as rotation depth. Sad he's gone from an All-Star nod to two and a half more-or-less lost years now. On the bright side maybe his knee issue will benefit from extended rest and he can be strong for the second half.

LF Rare Bob Wilber Bechet tribute with Bubba Brooks

It's gonna be real hard to find a copy of the recording depicted in the documentary. I think they did 100 copies and via CDR/label software not professional burning house. I wish this guy wasn't taking at trip right now, I want to find out just what he's got not sit around waiting to hear from him. -
I pre-ordered and recall zero mention of ambiguity at the time. It might have changed and then changed back to unambiguous but frankly I think they'd be shouting it out that this one is a "go" not leaving it to ambiguity/non-ambiguous.

So Severino is shut down with a rotator cuff issue - supposedly not too serious - and Sonny Gray is now saying that the Yankees made him throw too many sliders but his isn't like Tanaka's and it kept getting him into hitter's counts (the stats don't really back him up, but that's his story now). Will be interesting if he's really good in Cincy. I think he has the stuff for it, I remember being disturbed when the Yanks got him originally I thought it was a good pick up at the time.

This one threw me but now I realize the one I had been looking for at one time was Jazz at PS 175 which is all KD, no student groups.

LF Rare Bob Wilber Bechet tribute with Bubba Brooks

Really exciting: The guy at the organization says he digitized the CD and should be able to provide a copy if he can't find a new one. And they recorded their shows and he thinks that Bubba played twice for them and he should be able to find those too. I think he just got a donation to his fine organization. -

Excitement: got an email from someone at the organization. They only made 100 copies he says but he'll look and see if any are still around. If I want a copy I might have to haunt estate sales of members in the NYC environs which would be really inconvenient with me living in Florida. Told him if there are no copies left but he knows anyone with a copy ... -
I discovered Nisse Sandstrom when I came across a tribute to Pres LP featuring Horace Parlan. Now I just got this and it is quite nice. But the solo winner is Leo Lindberg on piano. Who is this guy? I assume he's also from Old Europe? Great playing on this disc.

"This evening of performances by world-renowned musicians will pay tribute to the NEA Jazz Masters’ careers, with performances by Jay Anderson, Steve Berger, Terence Blanchard, Terri Lyne Carrington, Kurt Elling, 2012 NEA Jazz Master Sheila Jordan, Bill Goodwin, Cleave Guyton, Grace Kelly, Frank Kimbrough, Noah Jackson, Christian McBride, Charles McPherson, Jason Moran, David Murray, Pat O’Leary, and Scott Robinson." Has Grace Kelly gotten better representation off of her videos with asshat/baritone dude? (Not to re-open that discussion but this seems like a somewhat surprising choice). Anyway - how much money is at stake? Because frankly, even though I haven't even read the first book, if this money allows Crouch to finish his Bird Tome, I am all in favor. I'd hate for him to pass on without publishing whatever he's got on Bird's bebop years and the first one only took what, 15 or 20 years? He is 73 now.

Yes found the society website and sent an email inquiring about the CD. No response yet. Thanks for finding the documentary I hope there's more complete performances by Bubba. Damn straight and no R&B licks in sight. I really really want to hear this whole session ....
