  1. He worked for Monk, and what he did worked for Monk, too. It's very hard for me to believe that even if Monk was coasting thru the 60s, finally acclaimed worldwide, that he would do it with someone in the tenor chair that didn't bring something to the music.
  2. I think we're lucky Allen hasn't jumped in here. I believe he hates Rouse in all ways, with Monk, away from Monk, it don't matter.
  3. I've been acquiring Sphere recordings and I'm astonished by this statement. You really need to expound on your feelings here but if I interpret it as a matter of repertoire, the records have far more originals than Monk tunes and only a slightly higher percentage of bebop standards than Monk tunes.
  4. Less of a minority all the time.
  5. I'm not a professional musician, being paid to perform. So, send me $200 (my minimum rate when I was voice over artist) and I'll send you a video, k?
  6. To be perfectly clear my vitriol is aimed at the asshat bari player. His shtick is incredibly boring and worse than lame. I imagine he probably started doing the dance moves "because I gotta dance when I play" but in all honesty I think the truth lies in his being such a shitty player he developed the dance thing to distract from that fact. As for Ms. Kelly, I'm told she can play straightahead but I have absolutely no desire to check her playing out, and anyway judging from her videos, this is the way she's headed. "You do you" as the kids say. IMHO the chance of this *stuff* leading anyone to check out jazz is less than nil.
  7. Since their two minute hits are awful enough, that was three times as painful. Seriously does this guy realize he does the same freaking thing all the time? He belongs in the subway, out of sight and mind, busking for coins.
  8. The right field porch gives, but sometimes to the wrong team. After the game Robertson said that it really bugs him to give up homers to the short right field porch in Yankee Stadium: Acuna’s homer went 361 feet. Robertson, notably, did not have an opinion about teammate Aaron Judge‘s homer to right which went only 340 feet. Funny that.
  9. Colt .45 is out on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Colt-45-Arnett-Cobb/dp/B07C1RWSJ2/ref=sr_1_129?ie=UTF8&qid=1530468217&sr=8-129&keywords=arnett+cobb Is it actually the same track as the soundcloud cut?
  10. Ok we're into July so I did another search and found this soundcloud account: Right now the fifth track down is titled "Welcome Back" and is a two tenor cut. Could this be the title track to this supposedly upcoming release? Any of the experts want to opine on whether the other tenor is Wilkerson?
  11. As I still haven't seen the Grant Green movie, and maybe others haven't either but here is a Marc Meyers blog post about the new Resonance Recordings - down below are youtube links to the entire film. http://www.jazzwax.com/2018/05/grant-green-funk-in-france.html
  12. WOH Part Doo: I'm an idiot. That We Love The Blues disc started to look familiar and it took me about 3 minutes to find it. Guess I'll have a Pay It Forward offer soon. In the meantime it's up next in the stack.
  13. Google translate give me an idea ( ) : A plan that the old and new popular artists covered the famous songs of Blue Note with a new interpretation. Producer is also known as Blue Note, Arranger, Bob Verden. The recorded songs include "Maiden Voyage" which Diane Reeves sings freshly, "Fighi Hubbard who tried hip-hop and" Alligator · Boogie (Alligator · Boogaloo) "featuring Ohnishi Junko. You can enjoy it with contents such as kaleidoscope of sound from straight jazz to hip hop.
  14. Woh! Never knew of that We Love The Blues disc let alone that Haynes was on it. Just jumped at the "Collectible" copy on Amazon for $8, which leaves plain old "used" copies starting at $20. Never bought a Collectible listing that was so much cheaper. With the LP also en route, these four tracks with Haynes will basically make the Haynes tracks equivalent to a full LP length, with T-Bone guesting on half. I don't know if it will be quite as brilliant as this guys says but this is very cool. Thanks for posting this length. As an aside I am curious if anyone knows that Sonny Forriest LP. Helluva band behind him even if the jazz content and soloing is minimal or nonexistent. I'm trying to decide if I want to pull the trigger on it.
  15. Forget the list its supposed to be at the PO shortly.
  16. There's another Frank Haynes recording out there?
  17. Is he still in the "mellowed with age" style or does he still tear it up? I would guess a younger crowd at a rock festival wouldn't be that impressed with "I Want to Talk About You" done in middle-Trane style.
  18. Oh yeah, the Ace reissue, and another Ace comp of Federal sides (Kid Thomas!!) and not too long ago I found a Wolf issue close to the same time as this one.
  19. Yes. I hope its a good release I found a cheap copy on eBay.
