No problem but I presume we should hear from the Grand Poobah of BFTs before calling this an official change.
-
Well I had offered to handle this month before Joe popped his BFT cherry and am slotted for January 2018. So if you'd like to take that spot I am sure I could finalize mine in short order.

2017 MLB Facts, Lies, Propaganda, Opinions, & Pictures
Dan Gould replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Verlander to the Astros as time ticked away in August is one of the biggest "holy shit, they got who?" deals I've ever seen. -
Ended up listening to disc 2 in the car and pardon the expression but the last track was a car wreck, in all ways except me actually crashing while listening to it. I do plan to listen to it without road noise or distractions, but in the car, hearing what was said was not really easy so it was just breakdown after breakdown. So, listen to that - once, then I'm done. Oh, and the rest of it I'll enjoy many times in the future.

Yeah but the Sox are half a game behind and own the tie-breaker. If the Astros keep fading its anyone's race for top seed. -
Its 100% true, they don't drown and they are all over the place anyway so it stands to reason there are these floating ant mounds all around. Is it as huge a threat, I don't know but as Jim says they will fuck you up.

And if it wasn't bad enough, how'd you like to be walking/swimming and waded into this? https://twitter.com/HoustoniaMag/status/901825982667116544/photo/1 Fire ant colonies, also just looking for a dry space.

I wonder if they have any old boarding passes for sale. I'd like to have a complete set.

Is there a lawyer in the house?
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
That's what I believe they've done. She didn't commit a crime of any sort, no fraud in securing the loan. She just fell behind in her payments and rather than working with her on a payment plan they suddenly stopped accepting her payments and said that she was in default and being referred to their attorney. And having done nothing but fall behind on payments, she's done nothing to give them the right to communicate her delinquent status to her employer. I am going to strongly encourage her to find a lawyer conversant in this area to get an idea of whether this is actionable. Not at all sure why you mention English law but there is no adverse implication to her employment. She is senior processor but does not process every loan officer's file, far from it. Of the loan officers she handles, there are very few of these types of double-loan situations and her boss is unconcerned about having them assigned to someone else. Its the principle of the situation as well as the fact that however fewer loans she works results in a smaller bonus check each month, at least potentially. -

Oh I don't doubt Florida law would control but I'm curious if any lawyer would chime in on a general basis. -
Here's the situation my wife is confronting: She had a loan from a Credit Union. She became delinquent and it was submitted to a lawyer for collections. She also works as a loan processor for a company that has been sending business to the same credit union when a client needs a second loan when they are purchasing a property thru her mortgage company. Today this Credit Union has informed her boss that they will not accept any loan applications in which she is involved as loan processor. I call this total bullshit and if it adversely effects her job, actionable against the CU. There is no relationship between her handling of her personal loan and the handling of loan applications for work. Anyone know anything? Post or PM please. Thanks in advance.

The pleasure may not last that long but I'd say any second division team that sends another team straight onto the golf course cause they ruined the other team's season is pretty happy they kept playing. -
Blues guitarist/singer Larry Davis. Not entirely new to me as I had a comp of most of his Duke work but I heard one of those tunes on a Norton comp, the flip to Texas Flood, "I Tried" and was knocked out. Don't know why it never hit me before but within a couple of weeks I had received the handful of releases he cut from the 80s to 2000s. Strong stuff, and I am also finding the 45s he cut for BB King's label to be pretty good too.

I used the filters to find jazz, blues and R&B discs: https://archive.org/details/georgeblood?and%5B%5D=subject%3A%22Jazz%22&and%5B%5D=subject%3A%22Blues%22&and%5B%5D=subject%3A%22Rhythm+%26+Blues%22&sort=&page=2 Click on the image of the record and it brings up mucho detail, including notes on which transfer was considered "best". On the right of screen is a box with links to downloads and the "best" transfer is named in a simpler way to make it easy to grab that one if you want. (Wow, these are huge files. FLAC for Eddie Taylor's Bad Boy is 74 MB!)

Thanks KH. There are actually a couple of tracks missing from the Groove Merchant LP., Arriving today, Boogie for Three Pianos - Sammy Price, Jay McShann, Jean-Paul Amouroux (Swing Land) Stumbled across this on Discogs and decided to go for it - a live concert from 1989 featuring two legends and a much younger boogie-type player, solo, duo and all-three-at-once. If nothing should make for an interesting BFT track or two.

And the trouble with LPs sealed for a decade, its a tad warped. Sounds OK though. More vinyl arriving today: Katie Webster, Pounds of Blues (Charly R&B) Pony Poindexter, The Happy Life of Pony (Session) Frank Foster Quintet, Chiquito Loco (Bingow) - Live in Europe in the 70s with Mickey Tucker and Ted Dunbar Clark Terry Live '64 (Silveto) - had no idea until recently that Horace Silver's label put out non-Horace music Jimmy Witherspoon - A Spoonful of Soul (Verve) - autographed! Hawk (Shoestring) - When I interviewed Eddie Higgins it was the first I'd heard of his first big moment in the sun, accompanying Hawkins at the Chicago Jazz fest. I had no idea there was an airshot that got released in the 70s. So one side and one track is Hawk with Eddie Higgins and the rest are sketchily dated live recordings of the 50s with Teddy Wilson, with Buck Clayton sitting in on one track and Dizzy on another. Most excited to hear the Hawk, I hope the quality is decent, and the Pony, as I heard his disc in that Enja box of unissued 70s sets and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Happy Birthday Mark Stryker!

Plus a thank you for pointing me towards George Benson's lovely duo recording. -
Purchase or arrived today? Freddie Hubbard - Benny Golson The Jazz Masters (Groove Merchant) 180 gram reissue vinyl, I'm confused about the history though. Was this unissued at the time of recording? Doesn't seem like a Sonny Lester/Groove Merchant date. But that's what it say, and sealed, for $6, with Mulgrew Miller aboard seemed like a no-brainer. Great Jazz Trio - Kindness, Joy, Love & Happiness (Inner City) Never even heard of this one but its in VG++ condition for $2.50 so how could I pass it up, despite the terrible shape of the cover? Eddie Clearwater, The Chief (Rooster) and the seller threw in a freebie: Woody Herman - 12 Shades of Blue (Columbia) In VG+ condition.

Well Lowe in Marsalis-land seemed about as likely as Trump in the White House and look - both have happened/are happening! Seriously though congrats Allen hope it goes well. Are you really working off a Love Supreme as the basis for new tunes or new arrangements?

Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest
Dan Gould replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I've never been to Austin and I'd have guessed that you miss the food there! So I guess the preference for dry (relatively speaking) sandwiches comes from my associating them with NY Delis. No Italian influence there. -
Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest
Dan Gould replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I get those on a semi-regular basis but if I left Florida, I wouldn't miss 'em that much. (for those unfamiliar, its turkey, ham, roast beef with whatever fixens you want) But if we're on this subject I gotta say, never ever understood the concept of oil/vinegar being added to a sub. My response when asked is always "it's a sandwich not a salad. No thank you." -

Confirmation on Teddy Wilson and Mosaic update
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I don't know who Fred is but I'll translate that as "Carpe Diem." Or, "Buy what you want when its offered or as soon thereafter as possible cause nothing in this world is promised."
